Recently assembled AR kit to the range today. Was able to sight in and shoot 50+ rounds. However, every now and then a round would chamber and with a trigger pull, would only dimple the primer. Ammo is Lake City XM193 Lot 7. Upper and bolt are J&T kit. JP single stage trigger. This occurred with the first chambered round from a 10 round mag and a few times from the 6th or so round from a 30 round cheapo mag with a green follower that I put in to try to bring up to speed. On fired and ejected cartridges (can provide close up photos) there is a rough notch cut on the base, not a big one but rough to the touch, not really noticeable to the eye unless a close look; 180 degrees opposite on the ejected shell, on the shoulder of the cartridge where it settles into the chamber there is a small indentation. This is consistent across expended shells. I suppose its hard to offer any ideas off the above description, but anything come to mind? Also would appreciate any links to FTF discussions! |
| Is your hammer spring mil-spec and new? Does it have both "legs" on it yet? If it is underpowered it could cause your problem. They are cheap and (as you know) easy to change. You could also get a gunsmith to check the firing pin protrusion to see if that is OK. You may not have any misfires with commercial ammunition, their primers tend to be softer. Have you had the headspace checked? |
