I've been thinking about getting a Bushy varminter. I've read that the barrel is a chrome moly 4150, and nothing about being chrome lined. Are they not chrome lined? What are the advantages/disadvantages of not being chrome lined? I primarily will use it for longer range targeting, and some varminting.

Would a "V" match be the better choice?

Thanks.

According to Bushmaster it is not chrome lined.

If you plan on spending an extended period of time in a harsh environment such as the jungles of Vietnam, a chrone lined barrel is the only way to go as it protects against corrosion and makes it easier to remove fouling with basic field cleaning equipment. Chrome lining in the chamber enhances reliability of extraction, especially fire firing ammunition loaded with military ball powder.
If your after accuracy and won't be spending any time in the bush, then I would reccomend a chrome free bore. The chroming process reduces concentricity of the bore and rifling and more often than not reduces overall accuracy. Free machining stainless steel alloys have produced some of the most accurate bolt action and auto rifles available and questionably offers a longer effective barrel life than chrome moly steel. You have to consider your ultimate goal and then choose your equipment from there.

Thanks for the responses.

I won't be spending any time in the jungles of Vietnam, unless West Texas counts, but neither will I be shooting competition either. Just looking for a reasonable compromise between accuracy, reliability, and durability. Maybe just the plain ol' A3 20" with a milled site.

Think I'll do a bit more head scratching and see what I come up with. Thanks again, you've helped.
