I recently had drop in my lap a GENUINE COLT FACTORY M16/M4(A2) UPPERS, COLT MARKED COMPLETELY, M4 MARKED ON THE FRONT OF THE RECEIVER, WITH M-203 STEPDOWN.I had to have a new flashider installed and pinned because it was a 1/2 in short. I need to know which Colt Lower would be best, A Gov't Carbine marked lower or SP or NM. What would be the best match ????.What Lower was the upper originally installed on ?? This is my first Colt Build project, Any feedback I get would be helpful , Thanks. If anyone is selling a Lower with collasible stock please e-mail me>>> [email protected] |

I'll answer your last question first...the pre-ban M4 upper never came installed on a lower. The ban started in 94 and we didn't start seeing the M4 uppers until a couple of years ago (maybe a few but I can't remember). The Gov't Carbine's lowers seem to draw the most money when mated to a M4 upper but I'd look for any lower with a small hole and raised mag fence. Of course you could always find a large hole lower or a SP1 (mil-spec trigger pins) and use an adapter pin. If you don't care about resale and want to save a few bucks that's an option. You can't really go by the Variant chart given above because Colt Bastardized so many model numbers you have to go on a case by case basis. One other option is to find an Olympic or PWA. You can save a lot of money if you aren't concerned with sticking to Colt. Good luck, Marc |
