I know very little, about identification of the parts/makers/dates, etc... only how to use the rifle. I have a very decent shape SP-1 with C inside a box and a triangle under the box on the reciever and an M and triangle under the M diagonaly on the barrel. It also has 12 on the barrel, along with an F and 9 under the F at the site post. Can anyone clarify any of this? I want to trade it for an upper with assist and windage adjustments, etc, but would seriouslyy like to know what I have invested in, along with being able to describe it truthfully when I list it.

I figure 12 is the twist, but help with the rest please. Thanks Gentlmen and Ladies.

The markings on the front of the upper, just ahead of and kind of above the ejection port, are indeed Colt acceptance stamps, so that piece is original.  The barrel markings, however, I am not familiar with.  From your description, they don't sound like Colt.  Are they on the top of the barrel, ahead of the front sight assy?

The 12 is on the uderside of the barrel when assy is complete. The m and triangle are on the edjection side of the rifle barrel, and the F and 9 are right in between the front sight post front and rear barrel clamps. Help any?

Was just a thought, but could the M be for Martin Marrietta?

I'm stumped on the barrel markings. They don't sound like Colt stampings, but I can't say for sure one way or the other.  Hopefully, one of our markings experts will chime in here.  As I mentioned in my first post, the upper reciever is definately Colt. The barrel--???

My guess - and it is only a guess - is that it's an early Colt barrel, made after the introduction of the 1/12" barrels, marked "12" to distinguish them from the earlier 1/14" barrels. Does this rifle have a low s/n? Three prong flash suppressor? Buttstock without storge?

I only have the upper and it currently has a bird cage on it. I am desperatly trying to find out what it is as I am trying to trade/sell it for an upper like an A1 or A2, and want to be honest about it's description. Thanks for all you gents helping out.

regards, Wallace
