Quoted: Wes, Haven't you said in previous posts that none of the operators at Mid-South mount their optics that far out in front of the receiver? Just curious. In my (certainly limited) experience with an AimPoint, it works MUCH better when mounted forward like this than when mounted in the middle or rear like I see in most pics. You're faster on target, and the dot is a bit smaller and less fuzzy. Of course, the folks at Mid-South get about 200 times the range time that I do, so, hey, I could be wrong. -Troy |

It is not the best to mount optics that far forward but if you want a co-whitness and you have an E-o you have 2 options 1 don't buy a SIR and mount rear on a flattop 2 Buy the Arms SIR shown above and mount forward. You can't have both as the SIR has to mount to the upper and that means Height added to the upper and no more co-witness over the reciever. Sometimes you have to have boughten and sold 2 E-o techs to figure this out (like me)< and now ARMS throws this into the mix : ( Do I hear EO # 3? |

On all three of my aimpoints I have noticed that mounting the unit too far forward results in a very distracting Halo effect around the inside of the tube. If I turn the intensity down enough that the halo is no longer visible, the dot is too dim to pick up quickly. In my (also limited)experience , having the aimpoint mounted on a cantilever mount or ARMS throw lever mount just a tad forward of the upper receiver is ideal. How do you guys with the aimpoints mounted waaay out over the handguards deal with the Halo? and back on topic......Thats a mean looking system Wes!!! Gotta get me an eotech one of these days. |
