Hi, I just aquired my second SP-1 and I noticed the lower is a little different than my other SP-1. The new SP-1 is of 1975 vintage and you can see where the military style selector stops have been milled off. My other is a 1976 and it's smooth as glass in this same area. Here's a picture of the 1975... www.mindspring.com/~marlboro/images/IMG_0445.jpg So, is this normal for some SP-1 lowers? Otherwise, what does this tell us about this particular AR-15 lower? Nearly all the SP1s I've seen have the remnants of the stops still showing. Remember, the raw forgings came in to the factory w/ stops already there. Every once in awhile you'll find an SP1 where they took off a lttle more than usual, and it won't show the remnents of the lugs. Just for the heck of it, you might want to measure the width of the two recievers at some point other than the lug area. It wouldn't surprise me if the reciever with no lug remnant showing was a thousanth or two thinner. Not predicting it, just wouldn't surprise me[:D] Just took a look at the pic. Your lug remnents look about half a thousanth higher than the one on my piece, but then the SP1 I had years ago showed even more than yours. Just normal manufacturing varience in the days before computer generated production. |
