I am in the market for a post-ban AR15.  First time buyer.  Can anyone offer a suggestion on what manufacturers are worth the money.

This'll open a can of worms...

IMHO Colt & Armalite aren't worth a premium.  Especially Colt.  Why pay extra to get parts that aren't compatible with everyone else?

Bushmaster is probably your best quality with corresponding prices.  Rock River (RRA) seems to be the best value, with quality almost as good as BM, but much lower cost.  DPMS & Olympic are OK too.  Avoid Hesse like the plague.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a BM again, but my next AR will probably be a RRA.  (partly for cost, partly because BM doesn't make the config I want)

I think there's also a comparison of brands over at www.MD-AR15.com.  A little exploring there, lurking here, and thinking about what features you want and how you're going to use it will lead you to an informed choice.

Go to the industry forum and find Legal Transfers (This is Pete).....

Ask what he has in stock from Rock River Arms.

Check RRA's website first www.rockriverarms.comto get an idea of the config you like.  His prices will likely be lower than the list you see.

Also, check with Quantico Arms for Armalites and Eagle Arms rifles.

These are by far the best deals for the money IMHO.  Also the two guys who run these two shops are the standard bearers for nice guys with great service.

Mike,

I appreciate the info, that is the best advice I have hear yet. RRA is up and comming and I hear that the fit of there components are second to none in their market.  Thanks again.

My Armalite was purched for less than $800.00 as well as my BM.
I have one of each.
Which is better?
The one I have at the range on that day.

But I will admit I am a sucker for green furniture......

I agree with Tooly.  Please explain what a "premium" price is.

It's been a while since I priced complete ARs, but from what I've read here Armalites tend to cost more than Bushmasters or RRAs.  Some people think they're better and will pay the difference.  I was simply saying that I would not pay more for an Armalite, just because it's an Armalite.  YMMV.

A+ --- 100% satisfaction guarantee, makes most any price difference (which there is little to none) worthwhile for an Armalite.
