Is there such a thing? A friend has a metal float tube on his 20" AR and it seems to really add weight, just wondered if a sythetic one would lower the weight?

The best way to lower weight is to get a govt. profile barrel. The Bushmaster aluminum tube actually lowers weight because of its barrel nut. Then you have carbon fiber tubes and fiberglass tubes like the Armalite tube.

Check these out. Lighter than most aluminum ones and look "cooler" too.
