An early mod few knew about.
An old AK brake Bushy, the brake was the first thing I took off.

653ish clone I just finished. First rifle I got issued from Uncle Sam after I was done with the training pipeline.

Carrying handles will always have a place in my heart. Lol!

Is that a 14.5" barrel? I want to do the same build as you except go total slick side, but I cannot find 14.5" pencil barrels with FSB anywhere.

Noob question: Where is the best place to get a C7 upper?

I know the great parts apocalypses is upon us, but would really like to get a carry handle upper built.

It's a Brownell's 14.7.  It seems like everything has been wiped out for months.  Hopefully things will start coming back in stock soon.

THANKS!

Went ahead and got a blem A1. If anything, it will be a place holder for a C7 down the road.

Might just rock it slick-sided

Finding areas to reduce weight, the aesthetics of it, and the fact that I dislike the protrusion are the main reasons I wanted to go with no-FA.  The lack of a FA also makes replacing the ejection port cover much easier on a fully assembled upper.

I just checked out FA's site myself.  Seems like they may be sold out.  They only have that upper available as a complete 20" 604/M-16 assembly.

Not sure if Nodak has anything.

Heard back from Fulton Armory. No more uppers, no plans currently to re-stock. What's on the site is what they have.

That sucks.  Hopefully they eventually make more.  Good to have the option available.  I guess I'm glad I did not procrastinate on this build.  The timing ended up working out.  Same with the barrel (16" lightweight midlength).  Almost everything was gone by the time I got it, but I lucked out.

Im thinking they're doing that to keep assembled uppers instock.  They still sell stripped lowers though, I ordered one on Saturday, it should be delivered this afternoon, along with a LPK, and "mil-spec" buffer assembly. Im pretty stoked on it, I hoping the quality from their "classic" rifles has spilled over into their modern offerings.

Here is my contribution. FN 14.7 barrel pinned and welded A2 FH. Barrel is thicker under the handguards then pencil out front.. Bolt carrier group is the Geissele branded who's knows who made it bolt. LMT FCG. Brownells C7 upper and A1 lower (swapped out now but not in pic). Lots of Brownells clearance and sale parts in this one. ARMS mount and Aimpoint 5000 up top. John Thomas did the front sight install and pin and weld job,, it looks great It! It needs a few minor things but is ready for the range.

Will do, I'm sure the seller will help me out. I've heard nothing but good about them. They have an Ebay store and offered the scope with or with out rings, so I believe that it was just an honest mistake.

I bought it as is from Primary Arms. It wasn't cheap, but it was about the only barrel that had a light profile for a carbine that wasn't mid length. I can post the sticker on the package when I get home.

Yeah, I got lucky on the rail as Everygunpart.com had it on sale. The Aimpoint 5000 I had to work on through ebay. I really like the looks of the setup. Hopefully I can put it through its paces soon.

Brownells slick receiver set, FN 16” CL gov’t middy pinned by Retro Arms Works (thanks J.T.!) Comes in just under 6 lbs. without sling and mag. If I could change one thing, the barrel would be pencil/A1 profile.

Wow, all these look terrific.
I used to have two of those Aimpoints.
Gave 'em away to other shooters after I upgraded.
They got used on rifles just like the beauties on this page so all is well.

Pinned 14.5" to almost right at 16.5".  Used this FH for the little added length to get the bayo to still mount up solid.
