It’s an insight. Wilcox sit higher, are only black, and are stamped Wilcox with the cage code.

It’s legit on that uni.l with the Insight dot.  That’s how the HK NSW recces optics are setup.

Heads up, the newer PRI Douglas 16" barrels, aren't able to be cut down to 15.1, I sent one to D.Wilson and PRI is now putting a small recess in there barrels. My older PRI barrel that I sent them didnt have that recess. I guess you could technically still cut it, but the collar will prob be loose.

I'll bet Ron Allen could turn you a custom collar that would butt up against the gas block. Or a smaller ID if you were to have D. Wilson turn a step somewhere in that narrow portion.

That's because those barrels are a 100% correct copy of the profile for the Noveske Mod H barrels. You could probably ask for a straight non-profiled Douglas if you really wanted to but then you could just get anyone else's Douglas.

iPhone portrait mode. It must have thought it was part of the background without the cover on. It did it to the bottom of the can and the A2 grip.

I have been bitten by the recce bug and the build begins. I read through all 45 pages and have a few questions for the seasoned recce builders. From all the pictures I've seen, this is my build list so far:

Upper: Colt Keyhole or if I'm lucky, AF upper
Rail: KAC FF RAS Long
Barrel: This part I'm unsure of, I'm having a hard time picking a barrel from CLE. Can anyone suggest one company over the other for any reason? Bartlein, Kreiger, etc.
Optic: Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x24 in NF 1.375 Ultralite rings.

Ops inc brake and collar, CQD front, and an Atlas bipod.

If I get a barrel cut to 15.1, then get the Ops brake pinned and welded, is the overall length at least 16"?

Should I get the SPR/MK12 barrel or the Recon 16.1 from CLE? Does it even matter since it will be chopped anyway?

Recon barrel and have them cut it to 15.1 and do the pin and weld. CLE doesn’t stock barrels so they will cut it to 15.1 for the same price. Any of the blanks they use will be sub moa. If your keeping cost down get the Douglas. If you want to ball out get the Bartlein.

100% CLE RECON barrel. They use blanks from Douglas, Bartlein, Kreiger. You tell them what you want and they cut it from one of those blanks. I used a Douglas blank for my 14.5” and it was great. All your other parts are on point, don’t forget the spray paint!

Thanks for the help! I assume that the Ops brake is longer than 1", making it longer than 16" with the P/W?

The Lilja .223 M4 barrel with a BE Meyers would be easier since I can't get a can in my state anyway.. but were these barrels ever used with the KAC FF RAS long? I only recall the Lilja with the medium FF RAS. Nevermind I went back and saw some pictures.

Also does anyone have a line on a 2.5-10x24? Is the used market the only place for these now?

I have a 15.x" CLE Douglas barrel that will sit flush with the FF RAS if you're looking for one.

I'm very strongly considering triggering Murphy's Law the hard way, and just buying some 1.5" Nightforce rings to use since these fucking unicorn ass old KAC 1.5" are impossible to find. I'm sure as soon as I buy some rings the right ones will pop up. Hell, I've even started thinking about using some 1.4" and trying to convince myself the margin of error trying to measure pixels would be fine.

For everyone that has a Wilcox MRDS mount, what is the thread pitch of the screws that you used to mount the Docter to the Wilcox?

Blew up , rotated...

Any thoughts on this one? Supposedly Somalia.

Any idea of the riser?

Actual flattop or an old school chopped A2 carry handle with weaver rail?

Handguard looks fiberglass, but not a KAC/Armalite pattern.

Weren’t you looking for some KAC rings?  Some early Vero Beach ones just sold on the EE.  Not sure about the height.  Maybe you can talk to the buyer and work something out.

ETA:  I didn’t realize those weren’t the kind you were looking for.
