Free floated with barrel mounted bipod?
View Quote
Yes.  Only so it qualifies for this thread.

I just want an RPK-like AR to put my Rare Breed trigger in and do some brrts with because reasons.  ETA I might make a bipod mount that attaches to the rail since the VZ26 bipod I'm using is shorter than RPK bipods tend to be, so I maybe don't need to have it out at the muzzle to not interfere with folding up in front of the wood handguard.

ETA2: Anyone know where I can get an inexpensive 18" free float rail?  The ar15discounts.com NSB rail only goes to 15".

Now I'm thinking I should just buy two of the NBS rails and basically use one to machine an extension for the other.  So the first one 12", stops at the FSB.  Then lop the barrel nut clamp off the other, machine FSB clearance, and join them together, possibly by machining the inside diameter of the first and the outside of the second, so that the second inserts into the first until an m-lok slot matches up, then join them with a key and a screw.  Something like that.

Then I could run the fucker all the way out to the flash hider of the 22" barrel I have planned, get the bipod out near the muzzle, and remain free floated.  While having enough top rail space to land F18s

Older pic but this is my S&W lower with a BCM CHF midlength with a Daniel Defense Lite 2 rail.

Right now if I could only take one gun with me to where ever this would probably be it.

a friend of mine is looking for a handguard that will extend past his fsb. its a 16" mid length psa upper. i doubt he will care if its free float but he doesnt want to break the bank. he saw the utg pro/leepers ones but cant find it in stock. any other suggestions?

If it goes past the FSB it'll have to be free floated. A good option would be to search the EE for a rifle length free float tube and then figure out how to butcher it to fit with your FSB.

Picked up one of those Centurion C4 mlok rails to help update an old LMT defender 2000 I had. Optic is a romeo 7s - don't see much out there on this but it looks like they just started shipping in the last month. Very pleased with the handguard.

Let me try to help you with the pics...

That rail will serve you well. The thing is fucking bomb-proof.

Extra props to you for modding your Streamlight tape switch to mount directly to the M-lok slot. The devil is in the details, my friend. Well done!

Thank you! I was worried when I had started screwing in the mlok bits to the tape switch since they're slightly oversized but it ended up being a non-issue.

Nice! Good choice with the PWS FSC556. In my opinion, there is no better straight muzzle device that offers the benefits of a high quality brake, while also providing substantial flash suppression.

Well, I finally found a place to get a Fortis mid gas cutout rail (discontinued for a few years) so it looks like cloning my first "real" AR is back in business.  Minus some of the goofy shit I did because I didn't know any better.  Now if only I could find a Rainier XTC muzzle device.  (it was a factory Rainier Arms combat series)

Looking for two-three handguards with FSB cutouts or some to be modified for one. I’m looking at a 15” Geissele with a PRI flip up rifle gas. Should that work? And an Apex gator grip Handguard. The 12.25” with a midlength cutout.

I'm on the email list for the 12".  As soon as that comes back in stock it's game on.  I can't do it by just shortening the rail I have now and using a different size as the "extension" because the M-lok slots are in the wrong place relative to the FSB.
