| Anybody have any firsthand experience pro/con with the overall quality of current production Bushmasters? |
| Everybody pretty much says the WW rifles are better than the old Windham Bushmasters. I have an old 90s-era Patrolman's Carbine because like several others have said, I really like A2s. I haven't owned a new Windham rifle, but I have pawed a couple in the store, and they seem like fine rifles. I used a Windham 20" Gov't Profile barrel on my latest build, and they are pretty decent from what I have read on here. I bought a couple of stripped Ilion, NY Bushmaster lowers a few years back that I still have. They seem fine, but I haven't built them up yet, either. As far as complete NEW Bushmasters, like others have said, get the Windham instead. |

I purchased a Bushmaster NY made rifle a little over a year ago. Maybe two years now. Long story short, the store (nation wide chain) boxed up the rifle that I inspected and when I got it home found that it wasn't the same rifle. Front sight/gas block was crooked. Only an idiot would ship a rifle that looked that bad. Tried to zero it anyway and with the sight all of the way to the left I was still over a foot from zero at 25 yards. Called got an RMA, shipped the rifle and the run around started from there. Four months later they told me they were in the process of moving to Alabama and that it would be at least six months before they would be able to fix my rifle. I lost my composer at that point and they replaced my rifle with a new one "as a goodwill gesture". That took a couple of more weeks. The new rifle was fine but I will never deal with The Freedom Group again. I don't deal with the store that swapped rifles on me either.

| A Friend bought a really cheap Bushaster with light chrome moly barrel 1:8 twist. This Bushmaster did not have a rail on the gas block with no sights, six position collapsable stock A-2 grip and hand guard. I've been surprised, the rifle has functioned 100% and has proven to be accurate with Geco ammo, Federal M-193 and my reloads. My Friend started out with a red dot then swithed to a Nikon P223 1.5-4.5 scope in a Nikon mount. For a cheap rifle and scope this rifle is a shooter. I'm not a fan of mil spec single stage triggers but I was still surprised how well this rifle shot with that trigger. Maybe He got lucky. I would never recommend that rifle but I think he paid $499. He doesn't shoot a lot but He wanted an AR-15 before they got banned. He's satified and I've been surprised considering the price. |

I recently bought a 16" light barrel. I have only shot it on one occasion.
While shooting the trigger failed to reset on several occasions for me and another person. Pulled it back, gun fired and the trigger failed to come forward. Very weird. Going to safe and back to fire would fix it. On coming home to clean it for the first time, the breakdown pin was so tight I had to hit it out with a hammer and use pliers to yank it there rest of the way. Very tight going back in as well. I was finally able to solve the problem by switching the upper with another lower. Now both work fine. I guess the upper and lower were on the opposite ends of tolerances. I'm curious to take it out again now and see if the trigger thing is still happening. |
