I have a 18" barrel with rifle gas. The stock is a XLR Tactical that has a Kaw Valley 3oz carbine buffer and carbine spring per XLR instructions. I am wanting to use an AIM lightweight BCG (8.9oz) if possible as I am trying to keep this rifle as light as possible. I can deal with a little more recoil in exchange for lighter weight but I do want absolute reliability. Will I have issues with short stroking or bolt locking back using this described combination? My gas block is not adjustable.

IMHO....Ideally, a adjustable gas block should be used with a LtWt BCG.

AR's are designed to use a certain weight BCG with a OEM gas port size.... if you lighten up the BCG without adjusting the amount of gas pressure on it...

You could be cycling the BCG so that you induce a variety of feeding issues.... buffer bounce, BCG cycling faster then the mag spring... etc.

I strongly suggest you get an adjustable gas block.

yeah. what I have is a V Seven titanium. They dont make an adjustable gas block out of titanium that I an aware of. With the rifle gas, I figured the pressure would be lessened and I could get away with out an adjustable as I dont expect it to be over gassed. Do you think it could actually be over gassed? The barrel is a Green Mountain stainless. I did not measure the gas port but could easily remove the gasblock to do so as it hasnt been fired yet and isnt quite ready for a range trip. Still waiting on optic.

IMHO,  it is worth it to substitute reliability over weight.
Especially in this case.

Personally I would prefer a steel GB ... but.... here are some Titanium

And its not just the pressure of the gas... but the volume of gas as well.

I've one of those barrels on an SPR-style build, and it's nowhere close to being over-gassed. .103" port.

A year or two back, I recall some guy posting the extensive parts list for his lightweight build, together with prices and weight. As I recall, when I added it up, and divided by the final weight he posted, it came to $42.79 an ounce. If nothing else, that'll give you a goal to shoot for.....

I agree.  Also, the little bit of weight you gain from the adjustable gas block you can more than make up for by either using a gutted carbine buffer (1 oz total weight) or going with a Taccom delrin buffer (1.2 oz I believe).  Plus it will shoot a little softer.
