Hey everyone

Wanted to stop in and say thank you for providing so much information to those of us just getting going on this platform.  I took advantage of some black Friday deals and have purchased a piece or two each paycheck since and have finally completed my lower.

Vseven forged lower
ATI scorpion grip
Magpul acs-l stock
Bcm buffer and tube assembly
RTB polished trigger group
And a PSA kit for bits and pieces

Now I'm looking for an upper receiver to start the next stage.  I'm over thinking the whole brand name deal.  But torn between mega, bcm and noveske.  I know I want forged for the weight savings and I want a standard rail (none of the relief cuts on the rail lugs).   Just looking for a quality name brand with a reputation for good barrel fit.

Anyways thanks again and look forward to contributing what I can.

The three you've listed have an excellent reputation, and should be good.

I've used stripped uppers from Anderson, Aero Precision, and one or two others.  I have never had any sort of fitment problems on any of them.  Sometimes some out of spec parts will slip by QC, but that is to be expected in any industry, from any manufacturer.

The way that the dimensional tolerances fall together (assuming you're getting all milspec parts), you can choose from whoever you want and should be in good shape.  Your best bet is just to pick the parts that you like and make it happen.  Obviously I'm less choosy on this stuff than others.

So for the most part you really are paying for the name on the box then?  I don't have any LGS that carry parts to put my hands on before purchase so just nervous about flying blind.

I've read a lot of reviews that BCM uppers typically fit barrel extensions tighter and don't really need lapping, but those are just internet reviews I've read.  Many people think they are worth the relatively small premium.

This is how I feel about it. I use the ones from righttobear.com and have never had a single issue. They have very good tolerances and have fit very snug with every lower I attached them to. Best value out there IMO. You unfortunately just missed the sale where they were $39.99 stripped.

Go figure haha.  I just ordered a bcm earlier tonight.  I ordered some of my other parts from RTB and was impressed with the shipping speed and price.

Holy 2016 posters batman.

BCM Uppers are great, I have had three of them. Still have two. Be warned, the barrel will be a tight fit. BCM goes on the tight side of the spec range (which is why I used one for my precision build).

Sounds like you're doing good. When it's done, pic's or it didn't happen.

I'll have the heat gun ready!  I can see how the addiction takes place.  I was planning on just building the one which is why I was heading more towards the high end of parts, but as I've been building I'm really thinking that after this 556 I'll want a Grendel.

I'm leaning towards a Fortis night rail on this build just need to decide on a 16 or 18 inch barrel for this build
