This is my first time posting on here, so forgive me if this is in the wrong forum. I recently bought my first AR about a month ago. Only put about 200 rounds through it as of now. However, I'm having some issues with a flash suppressor I ordered. My problem is that it did not come with a crush washer and it is completely symmetrical all the way around. Because of this, I cannot figure out how to index it properly. There are no markings on it anywhere that signify anything, and no other signs because it is completely symmetrical. Does this mean that a crush washer isn't necessary because there is no indexing specification required? This is the only thing I can think of since there is no crush washer included nor are there any markings on the suppressor itself. I also apologize if I'm not using the correct terms here, as I have never worked with a suppressor before.

What muzzle device are you using?

A symmetrical muzzle device doesn't require indexing, personal preference aside.

Thanks for your response. That's what I was thinking as well, but I wasn't sure. Does that also mean that I don't need to use a crush washer either?

https://star15.com/cayman-flash-suppressor.html It's this one here. The Cayman suppressor from Doulbestar. As you can see by the picture (which I also forgot to mention) there are two opposite sides which are flat. Aside from those, however, it's symmetrical all the way around.

I'm with Circuits.  Like mentioned previously, if you don't mind the way it lines up against the shoulder of your barrel, a crush washer likely isn't necessary.  If you'd rather have the prongs oriented a certain way, then pick one up.  The flats you mentioned are for a .75" wrench to torque the flash hider down.

Of course I didn't even think about that. I have a torque wrench which should do the job. I think I have my answer! Thanks for your help guys, I was at a complete loss before! Having my first AR has been a good learning experience for me.

The Vortex FS that I use is self-tightening this one does not look that way.
If I bought an A1 or an A2 I would not expect them to come with the crush washer.

Before the A2 half-birdcage device which needed to be timed and introduced the peel washer, the military just used a standard lock washer to secure the 3-prong and A1 birdcage type muzzle devices.
