I have an itch for something thats not a flat top, a rifle thats simple and a little retro.
I was thinking of something with a fixed carry handle upper and a mid length 16" or 14.5 pinned barrel and standard front sight base. Some built uppers out there, Del ton being the main upper that shows up in a search. Building my own is a possibility. Never built an upper before, my Larue BuildAR upper will most likely be the first if I get the upper before I start this project. Seems like most middy barrels are M4 cut, and I am not sure which can accept a standard front sight base. Would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction. |

All I can add is that if you have a good vise, a torque wrench and a Geissele Super Reaction Rod (or another suitable way to hold your upper receiver), an upper is easier to build yourself than a lower is. Of course, this is just my opinion. After building several rifles by assembling the lower and purchasing a fully-built upper, I decided to build on by assembling the whole rifle and was amazed at how easy the upper was to build. Now, it's the only way I'll ever build an AR rifle or pistol. |
| Easy to build. F-marked FSB from a flat-top upper will work fine. Any A2 upper will work fine with an M4 extension. The only problem I see is that the BDC wheel won't be calibrated for a mid-length, and therefore you are better off with an A1-style upper. If you are honest yourself, the A2 is a big groupthink camel, and the A1, especially 604-slickside upper is the pure function AR. |

I was thinking you could reset them like you can with an LMT rear sight on a MK 18 clone. The RIBZ mod is what I am referring to. |
