I have a newer model Bushmaster that i bought 2 years ago, and i keep seeing posts about how bad the newer rifles are. Problem is, not very many of the posts name specific issues.
When i first got the rifle, i swapped out the commercial stock and buffer tube assembly with a mil-spec one from PSA, and i also put in a nickel boron BCG from Aim. Other than those parts, the rest are factory Bushmaster. So far, i have run 4500 rounds through it, and as best as i can recall, i haven't had a single failure. So, my question is: What specific defects or problems do i need to be looking for? |
| If your rifle has 4,500 rounds through it with no problems to speak of, that's all that should matter. If it ever does develop an issue, I'm sure it won't be any issue that hasn't happened to another AR15, regardless of the brand name. Sounds like you have a nice, functional rifle there. Enjoy it. |

I've seen a lot of complaints about "the new bushmaster" but have not really see specifics. I think Production has been moved again anyway so the current bushmaster's are made somewhere else by different people and on different tooling than your rifle. I seen a brand new one in my LGS recently, and it had a North Carolina rollmark on it. I cant remember the name of the city, though. |

Yeah, its been really good so far. I have no complaints. |

Bushmasters big mistake is the Plastic rifle they sell, other then that its just the "my rifle is better then yours" crowd. How many real posts have you read that claim a problem with a BM? Other then the Carbon15, none.
Every internet commando knows a friend of a Navy Seal who said so and so was a bad rifle. Certain companies pushing there products by bashing others. "I read on a forum" is not a factual statement. Unless someone can show some first hand accounts and not hear say, I'd say your rifle is fine as 99% of others made with American parts. Kool-Aid comes in many flavors, plain water is just as good for you. 4500 rd's, just braking it in. |

My bushmaster is about 6 years old. It's had a couple thousand rounds through it. Very accurate, and not a single malfunction.
The only thing I don't like is the bolt feels like it slams too hard into the buffer tube. Probably an easy fix with an f/a bolt carrier or H-2 buffer. But other than that I love it. |
| Ignore the interweb gun gurus. I don't have a Busmaster but have one of their sister companiy's AR's that are supposed the be awful according to the "experts".. After 4 years and a little over 4000 rounds without a single glitch I just laugh. You have a good rifle. Don't worry about it just take it out and enjoy it. |

Cerberus bought Bushmaster and like Remington, quality has taken a hit. If you got a good one, then you didn't get a bad one, and you are good-to-go.
I know a guy (seriously) who had a problem with a Remington product, they were not honest in solving it, but eventually did replace the rifle with a different model. When Remington bought Marlin, the QC, fit, and finish all took quite a nosedive. They seem to have ironed if out by now, but way too many poor examples were sent out. None of them blew up, and I have not heard reports of substandard materials, just crappy work. |

I put a full auto style BCG in mine, and it smoothed it out quite a bit. |

My Bushmaster was the first AR I bought, it was THE name I associated with AR's before I knew anything about them (grew up in a family with no gun interest). It ran fine, never had an issue with it (other than a couple Tula steel cases getting stuck, but that happened in my second AR as well so it may have been the ammo.) Anyway I've since changed to a different barrel and BCG but had nothing bad to say about factory stuff. |

The old bushmaster used to be on par with colt. A B C right? ![]() In the early 1990's you could do much worse. Something I've found amusing is there used to be loads of hate for Eagle, however when they changed their name to Armalite, there was nothing but praise for their products. |

So there's at least one first hand account for you |

My Bushy has been accurate, reliable, and breakdown free since 1995. My choices were B or C, there were no A to be found. The Patrolman I bought 2 years ago has been the same. Like any other firearm, if something breaks, fix it and carry on.
Too many keyboard commandos, and not enough shooters. . |

The original Bushmaster rifles were very good with some examples being outstanding as far as accuracy was concerned. IF there have been any problems when ownership changed hands, they have all been addressed by now.
The truth is the AR-15 series of rifles are so common, with so many manufacturers, most of them are using the same internal parts produced by a handful of defense department contractors. Very few companies make their product 100% in-house with every part made under one roof. Rack grade AR-15's are a dime a dozen, and Bushmaster is as good as any of them. |
