I just bought a new PSA upper and put it on a Bushmaster lower. Everything seems to function fine, but i have to gently tap the rear takedown pin with a small rubber mallet to get it in all the way. Needless to say, the upper and lower are very tight. The original Bushmaster upper was not loose, but i could easily push both pins in with my fingers. Is this normal, or am i just being paranoid over nothing? I want to make sure everything is right before taking it to the range.

Totally normal. Will loosen up with use.

This is not uncommon, the pins will and should loosen over time with use. The tolerances are just tight and need to be broken in.
This is a far better challenge to have than the tolerance being too loose.
Safety check at the range and enjoy.

Thats a relief. I was hoping something wasn't messed up. Thanks for the info.

It will loosen up as you use it, tight is right, when they are new.  You need to let your new parts make love for a bit to fit.

I had a rifle with tight takedown pins. It never got much looser over the course of many years.

I don't see why it would loosen up, yet everyone always says they do. None of my tight uppers have loosened up with use.

Steel takedown and pivot pins under spring pressure on an aluminum receiver. I notice more wear on receivers I swap uppers the most. It's just normal for these pieces to wear at friction points. I think it's important to understand that upper and lower fit have little to do with accuracy. Put 1000 rounds of M193  through your rifle and check again.

If anything tighter is better.
Rather have that than a wobbly upper.

I have been happy with the results of removing the rear pin, chucking it up in a drill (takes a little effort to center it), and taking it down a touch with Emory cloth or crocus cloth, testing periodically until you achieve your desired fit.
