Is anyone still buying spikes uppers or lowers? I used to read that they were BCM and DD biggest competitor but rarely hear of them now.

I just built this using a Spikes upper and lower receiver. Tiny bit of wiggle room between upper and lower. Accuracy wedge took it right out. LPK fit perfectly. Really please so far.

I've been looking at adding a spikes Rifle to my rotation and I have read several times about the lower being out of spec.

I've priced a Midlength spikes St Midlength at 765 and Bcm at 999 for the same spec rifle where is the $230 difference?

I used a Spikes stripped lower and ST-T2 buffer kit, both of which are aesthetically and functionally top notch. They mated beautifully with a BCM complete upper.

My carbine build is based on a Spikes Tactical upper.  I changed the barrel and BCG over time, but still keep the Spikes BCG as my spare.   Very good quality to value ratio.

I have a Spikes build and could not be happier. IMO, a much better deal than BCM. It is weird that Spikes has been low key lately. Here is a pic testing different ammo with the ST-FN 16" barrel @ 100 yds - it really likes the BH OTM.

I like Spike's. Decent enough forged lowers with cool variety and I like the 'personality' the company brings. I'm in the market for a Honey Badger lower from them where the 'auto' position says "Don't Give a S***"

[#8]
I've got 3 builds using spikes stripped lowers and their stripped uppers. I have one lower from them that I can't use as no uppers I've tried will close on it with the takedown/pivot pins in place.

That said, I've been happy with my spikes parts. I've used their LPKs and love that they use spiral roll pins instead of the split ones.

I think you don't hear as much from them as before because they have been pretty busy keeping up with demand.  I think they once had a 10-12 week wait time posted on their website but look to be mostly caught up now.

In this case; No news is good news.

I'm not a fan of the over-the-top billet lowers they've started making( to each his own) but their quality is top notch. I have a pair of forged lowers, an ST upper, and several LPK's that have been absolutely faultless.

I've built 4 lowers uppers with no issues.  Have a dozen of their lowers in the safe, too.

Build 5-6 guns and own 5 stripped lowers from them. They're perfect, try milspec. Can't recommend them highly enough. Between spikes, Aero, BCM and DD, there are allot of good choices for forged lowers.

I have their complete 10 inch .300 BLK upper receiver.  Works flawlessly so far with supersonic and subsonic ammo but that is what I expected.  I haven't tried supressed yet. I wouldn't buy another Spike's as the market is already saturated with so much competition.
3/16/2016 5:23:17 AM EDT
[#14]
I have one of their Crusader lowers and it's perfect. It's awaiting Form 1 approval at the moment. Also have a Punisher lower stashed away for future use. Here is the Crusader:

Coming from the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" and the home of Blackbeard's lost Queen Ann's Revenge, as well as being a graduate of ECU (the Pirates), I have to say I am partial to Spike's Calico Jack logo.

I assembled a rifle using their upper, lower, CH, and BCG.  It functioned perfectly with M855.  I also have a factory assembled mid length from them that also functions perfectly with M855.  Not too long ago they were one of the top recommended here when people would ask for suggestions.  Guess with market saturation people get bored and move on to other products.  IME they produce a good product.

The rifle I posted above used to have a PSA lower on it that had a very sloppy fit with the upper. I swapped the upper and furniture onto that Spike's lower and now there is no slop. Of course, I realize full and well that there exists stacked tolerances as that's just the nature of machining/manufacturing. The LPKs and aftermarket improvements (Geissele trigger, Norgon ambi catch) went into both the PSA and Spike's lowers flawlessly. It could very well be that if I were to try another PSA lower on that upper, it might have a better fit, but I'm quite happy with this Spike's lower.

I have a Spikes lower with a BCM upper and its solid. Just a little play between upper/lower but not enough to care.

Tom from Spikes built this complete upper for me, when uppers were hard to get.  It was my first lightweight, and first Spikes barrel.

It is easily my most accurate chrome lined barrel.  I have not had a single issue with it.

Ive build a few using spikes uppers and lowers over the last year.  A couple crusaders, and a Jack.  Joeboboutfitters.com has good prices.

I wouldnt put Spikes in the same category as Daniel Defense.

Spike's is GTG, their Customer Service is by far the best in the Industry.

I've seen threads here where a member has an issue with a defective small part from another vendor and Tom offers to go ahead and replace it.

I see all of the threads where people complain about them marking everything with their Spider logo. Hell if I owned Spike's I'd do the same thing, be proud of your company!

And yes, I own several Spike's products and they've been FLAWLESS!

Built one of my first rifles on a Spike's Honey Badger and currently looking for a Calico Jack to start my next one! Very tight fit with a PSA upper, has been excellent so far.
Spike's has been keeping a low profile lately, but to me it seems as they always had - BCM and DD seems to advertise a lot more.

I put together a standard(Spider emblem) Spikes lower receiver for my brother and it went together and has performed flawlessly. I just picked up a Crusader lower for myself and love the look of it. I can't comment on the functionality of the Crusader lower yet but I don't expect to run into any issues.

I usually use spikes lowers for  my builds and have never had a problem.

They are a "go-to" manufacturer for my limited needs.  I have always experienced top notch quality with parts purchased from them.  Add to that the fact that they are just nice people and it keeps me coming back.

Here's my home built zombie lower with an ST-LE 16" Upper.  I added an ST-SAR to the upper after the fact.  It serves as both my competition and HD carbine currently, I trust it that much...

Same here. I've used stripped lowers from different companies, and Spikes have consistently been the best. I don't recall having any problems with them at all. Also like the Jolly Roger and Punisher rollmarks for a little variety.

The funny thing is the most out of spec stripped lower I've ever had was a DD one. The rear portion was too narrow. Had to slam the DD upper on it to make it fit.

Looks like Ill buy me a Spikes upper and lower, just wanted to see everyone's opinions and looks like they build a quality product!

I've had a complete spikes upper on a spikes lower for about 5 years now.  It's my favorite rifle, and my go to, even over my bcm, dd/rainier, etc...

Never used any Spikes parts until this past year.

All Spikes on this SBR (Lower, buffer tube, upper, BCG, barrel):

Spikes lower & buffer tube on this one (With Geissele trigger):

Built another Spikes lower that I ended up gifting it over Christmas.

No problems with any of them.  Everything went together nicely.  Their basic LPKs were very user friendly.

I use them quite a bit.  Never had any issues with the Uppers or lowers.  Customer services is GREAT.

I have two Spike's lowers, ne Zombie on a Form 1, and the other a Honey Badger as my KISS carbine. Both builds were easy, and no problems.

Spikes upper receiver, 13.2" BAR rail and enhanced LPK except the PDQ and SSA-E. Battle trigger and Ergo grip went in another rig (still amazing).  Spiral roll pins are choice. Been a customer since 2008.
I just don't get the homo erotic fantasies about the logo.

not sure about their being the BCM or DD equivalent but I do like their barrels ....ALOT

IMO they're right on par quality-wise. The reason I like Spike's is because they seem like they know how to have a little fun and they make products for shooters that want to have fun. FWIW, the SBR I'm waiting to build will have a Spike's Crusader lower, DD 10.3" barrel, and BCM BCG.

I can think of one MAJOR advantage of Spike's over BCM or Daniel Defense.....

Tom!

Tom hangs out on ARFCOM and is always more than helpful!!!

Just built a crusader lower. Mated it up with a VLTOR upper. Just a very slight bit of wobble between the two but overall great fit.

My ready rifle is my Spike's Zombie.   My back-up, KISS rifle is the Spike's Punisher.   Waiting on my Crusader lower so I can build my first AR pistol.

I have three Spike's rifles. All are great looking, tightly assembled and reliable shooters. When I had a question, it was answered quickly and politely in a day. I cannot recommend them enough.
