The problem I was having with Wolf Polyformance 7.62x39 cartridges seems to have been solved. I installed a Wolff Extra-Power hammer spring and ran 30 cartridges through the rifle without a blip of any kind. Ignition was 100% on first strike.
Trigger pull was a bit heavier but still decent; certainly nothing to complain about. Accuracy at 100 yards with an unmagnified red dot sight was in the 3 1/2 inch range. I should scope this rifle to see what it will really do. I would expect 2" or smaller groups at 100 yards using a scope. Even before installing the new hammer spring, when the rifle fired, it functioned fine. So far, through roughly 75 or 80 rounds, I've had zero malfunctions of any kind except, of course, for hard primers not firing on first strike. That's now fixed. |
| the extra power spring is a direct route to overcoming that problem, but not what I would have chosen. I don't like a heavy trigger pull. Standard springs are "standard" because they are expected to work. I would have looked for other problems, like free movement of the hammer and firing pin (maybe you did that, just saying for the benefit of anyone who would order a heavier spring before sleuthing it out more.) To check the hammer you would take it out and reinstall with no spring and check it's range of motion. If hammer and firing pin move freely through their full range I would try a whole different bolt group. If I still have the problem I would try a different standard spring. Before I would increase my trigger pull weight I would buy a geissle trigger group. If that failed I would take the geissle out and get rid of the rifle. Again, I do not like a heavy trigger pull. |
