Looking for an entry level AR.  Spikes or PSA?

Between these 2, I'd choose the PSA Upper/Lower "Premium" assemblies and save money. I think Spikes also uses the FN barrels like PSA does in their premiums.

I'm unsure if Spikes machines/mills/finishes/coats any of their components. I think they only assemble like PSA does, using other's parts.

I'd also go with the PSA premium. I'm not sure which Spikes rifle you are looking at, but I'd wager you could buy quite a bit of ammo with the price difference or a red dot/buis.

I'm in the same boat. I've been comparing Colt, FN, PSA, Spikes, etc. and I keep coming to the conclusion that even tho Colt has the best overall reputation, once you compare piece by piece and part by part, PSA has the better components for the money. I'll probably build with PSA and Magpul parts, except for a DD, LMT, BCM, or Colt BCG. with a mil spec PSA BCG as a reserve. Dont forget good mags. Chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

Best of luck with your build.

OK, I'll rock the boat...

Between those two, I would go with the Spikes, due to my experience with them both.

I've bought complete uppers and built a few rifles with each and I have to say that even though the parts used in both are of comparable quality, PSA has more quality issues with their assembly than does Spikes. (loose or over-torqued barrel nuts, canted FSBs, etc)

I also like the barrel profiles that Spikes uses compared to those spec'd by PSA, even though they may both be made by FN.

However, if I were buying a new complete rifle, I would go with the Aero AC-15M.

...otherwise I would be building from an Aero receiver set.

PSA is going to offer you the best value and their premium/CHF stuff is of good quality.

For an entry level AR, I'd recommend the PSA Premium M4 with Iron sights. Shoot a few hundred rounds and read more before you change anything.

Its new, so I don't think anyone but Aero will have it for a while. (you can get an email notification)

Schuyler Arms will likely be one of the first distributors to get some though...and at a better price.

I emailed Schuyler today and they do not carry Aeros complete rifles. Thanks for the suggestions, I'm 90% sure this is the rifle I want. Hopefully they'll have it in stock beginning of next month when I intend to buy. Do you have any other suggestions for dealers?

Can't go wrong with Aero. I have been nothing but pleased with my experience with them.

Not sure exactly what entry level specs are but if you're looking for a solid AR, you have a few good choices. I have a PSA and a Spikes. Can't go wrong with either but I lean towards my Spikes when I'm looking for a little more confidence in my build. Spike's is not only builder of ARs, they are also an innovator. You can like or dislike what they come up with but the bottom line is that they keep pushing the envelope.

Spikes.  Excellent customer service, higher resale value, and better track record for quality.

OP, of the two, I'd be tempted to go with Spike's, specifically their M4 LE Carbine.  PSA has been good to me, but Spike's has been better, and I don't see as many "out of stock" listings on Spike's site.

I'd also look at other brands, such as Aero Precision (but all of their offerings are out of stock at the moment...).

Prices are going to vary.  You might find a credible AR carbine for as little as $700 with sights, but some vendors will offer essentially the same gun for $1200 without sights...  Shop around and see what kinds of prices you see on different brands and from different sellers.
