Hey Guys,
I've decided to go with a Daniel Defense M4V11 as my first AR. I notice there are 3 versions...standard, LW (lightweight), & SLW (short lightweight). It seems as though the only difference is the barrel, rail, & muzzle. The standard has what DD calls a government profile 16" barrel, while the LW has a lightweight profile 16" barrel, which appears to be the only difference between the 2 rifles. The SLW has the same lightweight profile barrel as the LW, but in 14.5". It also has an extended flash suppressor to get the barrel OAL to 16" and a 3" shorter rail. My questions are this...what are the disadvantages/advantages within models? Is it strictly a preference thing? Why would anyone purchase the standard over the LW? They are the same price and the LW is slightly lighter. Also, what are the advantages/disadvantages of going with a 14.5" barrel w/ an extended flash suppressor as opposed to just going with a 16" barrel? Thanks Mike |

The only real advantage of one over the other is going to be velocity vs. maneuverability. I would personally take the SLW
I own 2 Daniel Defense rifles (DDM4V5 16" and DDM4V4 SBR 11.5") and love them both. I carry my SBR for work for the maneuverability gain. Good choice. |

Quoted: So what is the advantage of the 14.5" vs the 16"? With the pinned/extended flash suppressor the OAL come to 16" to make it legal. Its an inch and a half shorter overall, the 16 inch barrel also has a 1.5 inch flash hider so it is roughly 17.5 inch overall. The 14.5 will be lighter and they do handle better, its what i would recommend if you do not intend to change the flash hider out. |
