| I'm thinking I'm never going to find the barrel I would love to have. Looking for a 16 inch SS fluted 5.56 barrel. Every barrel I find is a .223 wylde barrel. Do they exist? If so where the hell from? |

here's one
here's another eta: or find a wylde and have a 'smith run a reamer in it.....or find a 5.56 and have it fluted |

People buy stainless (in theory) because they want accuracy, so it should be no surprise that stainless barrels typically have precision-oriented chamber designs.
Any custom barrelsmith can make you what you want, or as previously mentioned, buy a Wylde or other precision chamber barrel, stick a NATO finish reamer in there and give it a few twists. |

What's wrong with Wylde? Why Fluted? I am also curious why anyone wouldn't prefer a 223 Wylde to a 5.56 NATO. To my understanding, the Wylde is more accurate and it feeds both calibers. I respect the OP's opinion / desire. I'm just looking to get informed. |

Quoted: I didn't think about custom work until now actually. So options right now are 1. buy a blank 2. get a .223 Wylde and have it reamed 3. buy a .223 Wylde and use both 5.56/.223? What ammo would a .223 Wylde take then since I am using Wolf gold/AE .223 now? I've had several White Oak .223 Wylde barrels. Accuracy is great, and I've chunked everything from Wolf, Silver Bear, Barnaul, Federal, Winchester (.223 and 5.56), Remington, Black Hills, Fiocci, Hornady, Lake City M193 and M855, Barns, and mu own hand loads. The only problems I've had was getting rounds stuck if I didn't shoot them. Had to mortar them out. But that was only on my hand loads, and found out it was a user error and I didn't trim my cases just right. Once I fixed reloads, I never had a problem again. |

You seem to have a bit of confusion over the designations "223" and "5.56" .223 Remington and 5.56x45mm are the same cartridge. Rather than try to repeat all of this for the nth time, read this: http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/5-56-vs-223/ You chances of buying an AR15 barrel with a SAAMI 223 Rem chamber are effectively zero, as if it makes any difference. A Clymer 5.56 finish reamer is $105 on Brownells. Or call Compass Lake or White Oak and describe what you want. It's entirely possible that some alternative barrel would be as good if not better for your application, but just doesn't fit your preconceived ideas of what you want. |

This is the only issue I've ever personally seen with Wylde chambers as well. Other than that, they chamber and shoot both 5.56 and .223 reliably. |
| Decided to go for the Wylde 16 inch SS spiral fluted barrel. Probably another dumb ass question...the upper I currently have is a 16 inch midlength from BCM. The barrel I'm looking at is a 16 inch however the website says their barrel is chambered in a carbine length gas system. It's also an HBAR which I'm not quite sure about. |
|
I really wonder about the info given here. I own a BCM and a Rainer Arms with Wylde chambers and I've never had a hiccough with any 5.56 ammo and that's all I shoot. The BCM 16" SS shoots less than 1 moa with Mk262. And the Rainier slightly worse. In addition, I know a lot of people who have Wylde chambers and shoot 5.56 without a problem.
The most common reason for FTE is a bad extractor and/or extractor spring. A lot of times it has to do with a cheap bolt. A poorly machined/or dirty chamber will also add to the problem. It is far more likely poor extraction than it is a chamber problem. And it is far more likely a poor chamber than the fact that it is a Wylde chamber causing the problem assuming the ammo is fine. |

Have you researched the problem? It's pretty common. Extractor and extractor springs won't lock a bolt into battery. If the bolt was slipping off the round you might be able to argue a bad extractor but that's not what we're talking about here. |

I don’t remember who, but someone was offering a reamer to take a chamber to 5.56mm spec and not change the headspace. I have not had any problems with any 55 FMJ or 77 OTM ammo in my Criterion 18” 223 Wylde barrel. |

Seriously, you are better served with a blaster barrel if you're going to shoot blaster grade ammo. No barrel. no matter how good, can make up for poor quality ammo. Especially at distance. Treat yourself to some quality match grade ammo with your current barrel and you'll be surprised how well it shoots. That might be money better spent. |

Gotta have the ultimate top of the line (at least in their mind) parts for maximum performance and reliability, and then shoot the cheapest garbage ammo they can scrounge up. Because their ultimate rifle should of course be able to overcome any ammo problem.
