| I know this question is probably asked periodically but since new models are introduced so what is your favorite one? |

This is just an honest question, because consumerism doesn't necessarily make sense, but why do most of you prefer to buy a plastic grip for $60+ over something made out of lightweight aluminum? Is it just a brandname thing? I actually prefer the BCM stubby grip which is around $25.00. It serves my needs for a handstop (I don't use it as a grip per se), it's lightweight and it's very sturdy. I'm intrigued by the Gear Sector aluminum grip because I like other products they make but I can't see adding something that is likely heavier than what I use now and certainly way more expensive. |

I don't use them often, but my feelings are: 1) plastic is more comfortable; and 2) if you bang it hard into something, you want the grip to break, rather than possibly your rail. |

I think around $25 is a reasonable area for an accessory like a grip. The aluminum vertical grips I have from KZ are solid and light, not heavy while being within that price range. I know companies have their followings, but I was referring to the Knights Armament grip. Those things retail for $60 and are just plastic. I don't get it. . If I was going to spend $60 it sure wouldn't be on molded plastic. |

That's understandable. But if they're disposable then why pay more for a government contract baby company? GG&G makes a polymer grip identical in profile and function to the KA grip for $30. Like I said, I'm just interested in consumerism sometimes. |

The BCM grip (and I'm not a BCM fanboy) suits my needs and it affordable. |

I picked up the $30 Arisaka the other day that's alloy, it's a nice simple little piece. I've got one of the little magpul plastic one's too that was a bit cheaper, it's probably more comfortable to be honest, and plastic is more temp stable. I had a real grippod once, I felt like a goober with it and it was heavy, but it really was neat being able to drop the legs at will like that, and it was built like a tank. |

Is it just a brandname thing? I used to wonder the same thing, then I went out and put a couple hundred rounds through a rifle with a rail on it in a very short amount of time while testing a magazine. I found that the plastic grip was much more comfortable to be holding than the rail itself, and I'm guessing an aluminum grip would have been hard to hold as well. |

Is it just a brandname thing? Simple...plastic doesn't transfer heat. I use the Magpul VFG on my PWS MOD 0. It's a piston system with rails that attach at the gas block/trunnion. The rails get very hot, very quickly and since I'm not operator enough to use gloves, the plastic grip is the only thing cool enough to hang on to. I do plan on trimming the length by 1/2" or so, but otherwise it's a very comfortable grip. |

What I've tried:
TDi Ergonomic KAC Stark Vertical Forward Grip (looks like they've dropped the SE# nomenclature) FAB Defense TAL-4 Of those, I like the FAB Defense one the best. TDi -- seems cheap, in fact, I had a Chinese airsoft 'replica' of one that was pretty much indistinguishable from the real deal. Has a storage core with rubber cap. Core is the perfect size for GI cleaning kit oilers. KAC -- I don't like the shape since it doesn't help with indexing. Otherwise, pretty magnificent for what it is. Stark -- storage core with a *very* securely fitting rubber cap. Takes up too much rail space. FAB Defense -- very aggressive shape -- might want gloves. Two tape switch slots with blanks if you don't want to use them. Storage core has a twist on cap with a spring designed to keep 2x 123s in place. Can either be placed semi-permanently with a cross bolt or use the built in spring-loaded rail grabber. |

KAC is the only one I've ever used but I bought a tango down tonightI have nerver cared for them but tried on recently and liked it. I'm sure you'll like it. I've owned a bunch of different VFG's, and the tangodown is where it's at. KAC is in second for me, but the TD smokes it. Worst VFG would be the grip-pod, but I still love grip-pod anyways.

I've always been a TangoDown fan, but recently I've been changing handguards from Pic to M-Lok. I have found that the Magpul M-Lok VFG's are actually quite comfortable for me and my shooting style. Since the Magpul's are much cheaper than TangoDown, it works out nicely. |
