The shop I picked up my Palmetto State from a couple weeks ago, also has a new Windham Weaponry flat top carbine he's looking to let go for $720 OTD. Looks like a well finished gun much like the Palmetto. Are they GTG?

Windham is the old bushmaster plant and employees. They know what they are doing but $720 for an AR these days sounds high... Specs?

Windham is GTG. Windham was started by a bunch of the guys from the original Bushmaster after it was bought by Freedom Group IIRC. I've been 110% happy with everything I have owned from WW

I have one and I love it! Also as someone said its the old Bushmaster people. Solid rifle, I got one for that price about two years ago. Mine has the carry handle and fixed front sight. Yes nowadays expensive for an AR but a really great rifle from great people. Like I said, I love mine. I would pay 720 for a great rifle great name and a warranty.

I've had one for about 3 years now.  Definitely GTG.  Check out their page in the industry section regarding their customer service.  They stand behind their lifetime warranty.

I sighted one in for a friend recently.
I was amazed how accurate it was for a stock out of the box non accurized AR.

I was very impressed.

I've got one from back when they still used the snake with a boner logo and called themselves Bushmaster.

Good rifles. $720 seems reasonable. I think I paid around $800+tax for mine.

Bought one, loved it.  Can't go wrong with Windham.  Accuracy is excellent and the quality is top notch.  Would definitely buy again.

Considering that is a shop, which means you are paying tax, $720 out the door isn't bad.  As long as it isn't a carbon model.  I do believe the standard M4 style rifles by WW are about $769 locally, so you are saving about $100 if it is in excellent condition.  If it is so so, I would just look for a new one at that close to new price.

You should be able to find a colt oem-1 for around $750 OTD, I'd go that route.

I got the one you are describing shortly after the gun panic started, it was my first AR at the time, I absolutely love it even though my main rifle if a 16' BCM mid now simply because I like the mid length system. WW is an awesome company and I am shocked at how well their products are, my rifle blew my mind how accurate it was with everything from poor ammo to match grade. At first the 1/9 barrel worried me after reading 95% of people on this site condemning them but it has stabilized everything I have shot (up to 69gr so far) and it bulletproof reliable. You could do worse.

Guy here has a gunshop, he's also a cop. He's a WW dealer, gets the LE discount for the local boys in blue. He's equipped numerous departments around here with patrol rifles, gets more inquiries all the time. I,ve seen his storeroom packed with 50 or more for department purchases all the time. That's gotta tell you something.

Yes I think it tells us a lot. ^

Many cops I know use Dept. owned colts at work but when it comes
to buying their own privately owned AR many are going
with WIndham Weaponry.

I believe if Windham Weaponry keeps up their quality control they will
Be out selling Colts in the near future.  The AR world is constantly
evolving.  Years ago it was buy A B C.   Colt is basically bankrupt and
Windham Weaponry is taking more of Colts AR business everyday.
That's OK with me. In the animal / business world only the strong survive.

The Windham Weaponry Story makes them an American success story.  They came
back from the dead & seem stronger then ever. Plus they build one hell of
a firearm.

The WW are good guns, but they DO or at least DID cheap out in a few areas.

-6061 buffer tube (instead of the stronger 7075)
-A2 Front Site Base (not the correct F marked)
- Standard buffer (should at least use a H for a carbine gas 16")

Also a few other things I personally don't like:

-1/9 twist (instead of 1/7)
-Castle nut not staked
- Receiver not T marked

These are little things, but when you can get a Colt with all these above for pretty much the same price...

The only thing I'd say that WW has over Colt is faster customer service response.

I'm located in Canada and the Windham was my 1st AR.  I don't have a lot of comparatives, but I've had it for approx. 2yrs now and I've had absolutely no issues (with minimal cleaning).  Like everyone else has indicated, Windham is definitely GTG.

Windham sources their barrels from Green Mountain... I bought a 14.5" carbine 1/9 twist barrel that from them that is legit. I love that barrel.

I also have one of their C-158 bolts that is good stuff too!

The Windham Weaponry Story...
A team of the finest firearms manufacturers in the U.S.A. has been re-assembled to bring to market the highest quality AR type rifle possible. These good Maine folks - most of whom are former employees of Bushmaster Firearms - offer many years of experience in the industry, and all look forward to working with you, to serving your needs, and to building you a great rifle.

When the people who bought Bushmaster in 2006 decided to move it “lock, stock and barrel” out of Maine to New York in 2011, the original Bushmaster owner, Mr. Richard Dyke was left with both a dilemma and an opportunity. Almost to the day of the 2011 move, Mr. Dyke’s non-compete clause expired. He still owned the property where Bushmaster had been built, and knew all the workers - now laid off - who had helped him build it. He made a decision to “get back in the game” and promptly put an email out to many of his former employees and friends asking if there was interest in joining him for a new project.

With a resounding “yes” of support, he gathered the financing in two days, and started bringing people back into their long-time Windham manufacturing home. Phoenix-like, Windham Weaponry was on the rise. Within three months, the first productions models of the new Windham Weaponry line had been perfected and delivered. Quality, fit, finish, durability, accuracy and value were all superb - giving credence to Windham Weaponry’s motto “The Quality Goes In, Before The Rifle Goes Out”.

The firearms industry and consumers welcomed this new effort warmly, old friends and contacts were re-established, and sales grew. In less than a year and a half, Windham Weaponry had brought back almost 70 employees, benchmarked impressive sales numbers, and established their name as one of the pre-eminent firearms manufacturers in the country.

Yes after shooting a coworkers Windham Weaponry and hearing the above story I went out and purchased a Windham Weaponry MPC

I'm issued a Dept owned Colt R0977 W/ 14.5 barrel.  So I was also thinking about buying colt LE6920 which was exactly $150 more then
a Windham Weaponty MPC. But when I handled one and did some research I found that the colt had poorly machined parts, gritty trigger,
Poor finish, loose fit, poor customer service, colt was bankrupt, colt bonds were rated "Junk" and heard stories from both ARFCOM & armorers at work that
colt employees were extremely disgruntled.

So what did I do.  I bought the opposite of the colt. A Windham Weaponry MPC.  My WW MPC has smooth machining, great satin black blemish free
finish, tight fit, good trigger, reliable, great customer service, and made my a company with a great story and employees that love to go to work and are very proud to build AR's for a company that respects their employees and Windham Weaponry employees respect their customers.

I've had my WW for about 2 years. Very good weapon. However, I do have occassional stuck cases during firing sessions when using Tulamo or other steel case ammo. I'd recommend that WW owners not use steel case ammo.

I don't recommend using steel cased ammo in any gun that doesn't belong in a trash can.
