Trying to decide on a new trigger for my general purpose AR. Has a standard mil spec trigger in it now. I'm looking at either the ssa 2 stage or a cmc single stage. This rifle would be used as a HD rifle if needed so I'm wondering would the heavier trigger pull of the single stage be better. The cmc is listed 4-5 lbs. I could get a g2s and be at the same prices as the cmc...
Thoughts suggestions? |
| I say leave the standard trigger if it's under 8 lbs. Well maybe 7. When it starts creeping up towards 10, it's annoying. But otherwise I think the lighter triggers are unnecessary on a CQB rifle. I found out that I actually don't like too light of a trigger. My Dad's M4gery has a lower with an RRA varmint trigger and it breaks right at 3lbs. Sometimes the shot is breaking really before I want it to. It's like you just breathe on it. 5 pounds is good though. But still..... |

This was my original thought. Cqb home defense general purpose type rifle do I want a light trigger or keep a stock heavy one. I can almost support the weight of the rifle without firing the trigger |

This came with my LPK. I don't think it's any lighter than a GI trigger ( maybe a hair), but it's really smooth with no creep whatsoever. Seems ideal for a self defense gun. Could always add some JP springs if you want it a little lighter. |

It is one of the better values in the aftermarket triggers. I would feel just as comfortable (actually more comfortable) shooting one of my fast triggers in a HD situation that I would any other trigger, especially knowing I'd be faster and more accurate. I have a CMC 3.5 in my "go-to" AR, which is a suppressed 12.5". |

I love two stages. I wish more platforms had them as standard, especially on bolt actions. I just purchased my third SSA on Monday. In my opinion, it is light enough for precision shooting, light enough to pull through quickly and not notice the second stage when doing double taps, but heavy enough to feel a definite second stage when pulled slowly, and heavy enough that you won't accidentally fire the gun the moment you put your finger on the trigger under stress. My HD carbine still has a stock trigger, but that will get upgraded with my next SSA purchase. ![]() |
| Of the two you listed, and considering your intended use, I would say get the SSA. I have a mix of 2 stage and single stage triggers and the SSA is great for general purpose use. The second stage break is light and crisp for precision shooting, but the travel of the first stage gives you an added margin of safety that you don't get with a light single stage trigger. They can be found for $180-$190 if you look around. For a good single stage that won't break the bank and lets you choose your pull weight, take a look at the Hiperfire EDT. Around $90. |
