Is there a Bayonet made for the AR Carbine? Seems like there would be. I cant imagine just letting it flop around on your barrel

Depending on whom you ask, the "AR Carbine" was made for a bayonet.

That being neither here nor there - a standard military bayonet will fit on both a 14.5" barreled carbine with a carbine length gas system, or a 16" carbine with a midlength gas system.

A standard bayonet will not, however, fit on a 16" barreled carbine with a carbine length gas system, which is one of the most common configurations on the commercial market (particularly the "entry-level" end) because of NFA restrictions, coupled with the fact that the carbine length gas system is far more common, and has been around for twice as long as the current industry standard midlength gas system.

There have been, over the years, some companies who have made modified bayonets (usually M7-style) to fit on 16" carbine barrels, as well as "clamp on" bayonet lug adapters, though I am not, off the top of my head, aware of any that are currently manufacturing said bayonets.  More than a couple people have also "home brewed" their own extended bayonets, usually by cannibalizing two M7s.

Here is a nifty little adapter. http://www.tacticool22.com/shop/ar15-pattern-rifle-bayonet-barrel-adapter-p-42.html I put these on 2 of my M4s, on my 1st M4 I used a DPMS clamp on bayonet lug mounted forward of the FSB, but after searching high and low I think they discontinued that part.

They don't make these anymore, it's like what Augee said from two M7 bayonets one is cut at the very end and the other cut about and inch and a half, then welded and weld grinded/ filed flush, cut the two rear short handles to fit.

The last of these long handle bayonet I bought back in 2005, after that they were no longer being sold except every once in awhile at flea bay.

These are available but at almost $300, they're Colt marked and made in Germany.

Thanks guys!

Love that extra evil feature.

I think if you have a heavy barrel, or government profile, you could take a used FSB and cut it up so you've just got the bayonet lug and the ring above it then drill and tap the holes where the taper pin was and maybe one up through the lug and set screw it onto the barrel where you need the lug.

ETA: Here's another option It should also fit if you have a full length rail.

There is a fairly simple method to have a bayonet fit.

Purchase an M7 bayonet.

Remove the grips.

Cut the hilt in the middle where the grips were.

Weld a section in that will bring the handle to the correct length to mate to the bayonet lug and have the "ring" on the flash suppressor.

Wrap the handle with Para cord.

That is how I used a Swiss K31 bayonet blade on my AR.

I mated the M7 hardware to the K31 blade. (An M7 blade is too damn short, a K31 is 11.5")

I have one of these for shits and grins. Works as advertised but the blade sits too far back, IMHO.

I could never understandcwhy 16" carbines have the bayonet lug if a bayonet won't fit.  Im sure its just a giant FU to the AWB crowd.....but still why put it there if its useless

Because when the FSB is finished and ready for installation, no one has any idea what length barrel it's going to be installed on, so they all "start life" with a bayonet lug.  They don't earmark them - "this one's for a 16" carbine, this one's for a 14.5" carbine, this one's for a 20" rifle..."

It would cost more in labor-hours to try to separate them that way that to just finish them all with the a functional bayonet lug, throw 'em in a bin, and have the installer pick one out at random, and pin it to the barrel.

Colt does shave them off on some of their "higher end" factory SBRs/SBR barrels, though they retain them on their 16" carbines.  Most people don't mind them anyways, and as you mentioned, some view it as a small rebellion against the old AWB, whether or not they own a bayonet, or a bayonet can be mounted to it or not.

http://www.triple-r-products.com has a solution that doesn't require cutting and welding, and allows me to use either of my AR pattern bayonets (M7 and OKC-3S) with my A4 and 16" M4, as well as my 870 wearing a S&J Hardware M7 bayonet mount (http://sjhardware.com/store/modules.php?name=catalog&file=product_info&cPath=107_121&products_id=316)

A standard bayonet will work fine on a mid-length 16" barrel.
