So I just noticed that my upper came missing the damned spring clip from the ejection port cover, so questions:
Is this an Ar specific part, or is this something I can find in identical form at the hardware store? I have found it online for less than $2.00, but the shipping is about $7.00 on what only actually requires an envelope and a stamp. I really do not want to pay that if I don't have to. How hard is it to install without taking apart the whole upper? Can I get away with not having it? Or will my ejection port cover fall off? |

This little thing? http://www.cobratactical.com/assets/images/cobratactical/1002014.jpg Yes, you install the c-clip without disassembling the upper. I don't think there is enough room for the pin to come completely out but it will certainly cause problems Some brands of hinge pin have a head on them, so they don't need the clip Yes, that thing. |
| 50 cents each and free shipping until the end of the month. Good chance to stock up on small parts as well, while they are offering free shipping. |
I got one (Thanks to someone here. Took a couple dozen tries (I never before knew just how clumsy needle nosed pliers could actually be. ), and I briefly got it stuck under my fingernail, but I got it in, no upper disassembly required. |

Are the days of holding sellers/manufacturers/etc accountable for their products completely gone, or is that just with AR15's?
When I open a box and find something is broken or missing, I call the seller or manufacturer and politely inform them of the shortcoming. Something like that, they mail you the part for free. They pay for it, because they told you one thing and you didn't receive it as described. It also helps them figure out trending issues, so you're very possibly helping them out. |

While you are correct, in this instance we're talking about a 25 cent clip readily available at the local hardware store a mile down the road. Sometimes you just need to pick your battles. |
