| I have read these cost half what a Lantac costs and work nearly as well. Where do I get them? |
|
THEY SURE ARE LOUD!
I'm guessing here would be too obvious? DID I MENTION THAT THEY ARE LOUD? |
|
I have one on one of my SPR builds. It works great as a compensator, especially for the price. From the shooters position, it doesn't seem (at least to me) to be any louder than a standard A2 FH. I've never stood to the side while the rifle was fired so I can't comment on the side blast, but I have seen cardboard ammo boxes get blown off of the shooting bench while shooting. My son-in-law currently has one on backorder from Brownell's. I got mine at a local gun show. |
| I've got one as well as a more expensive FSC556 and the Miculek works just as well as far as I can tell. As stated, if you're the shooter it's really not that bad at all, if you're shooting out doors anyway, if there's a barrier on either side of you, then you'll feel it. If you or someone is standing on either side of it, it'll get your attention for sure. |

I perceive a softer impulse with my Miculek if you modify it a little... if you drill through the threaded boss with the minor diameter drill (don't have the size at the house) needed to thread 1/2x28, and continue through the rear wiper (the idea was to gradually smooth out the gas being trapped)... then thread the entire boss, and do away with the locking nut if you have one... if right handed, clock it with shims to near 1:00 (you may need a trial or two)... not a great pic, but you can see the difference is wiper hole size...works better than the Surefire 556 for me http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz180/LesSnyder/001_zpsffa0e473.jpg This works well for me also, but I just do it one of the $20 generic 3 port brakes. |

They are loud as hell but they work great! Like other brownells. Prepare for people to hate you when you sit down next to them at the range. ![]() I totally get where you're coming from about the noise, all breaks are LOUD as shit. And some also have the added bonus of a huge fireball. But to be honest I've never really understood why someone would get pissed about being next to someone at the range with a break. I mean, you're at the range...people are shooting guns, wear the proper fucking ear pro and keep your complaining bullshit to yourself (range complainers, not you). Unless you're almost on top of the gun in question it's no big deal. Besides, indoor ranges have divider wall and outdoor ranges have a ton of room...move your fucking ass an extra 2-3' away. All guns are loud, with or without a break and especially at an indoor range. I always double up my ear pro whether I'm shooting pistol or rifles. Ever hear a Desert Eagle in 50AE go off next to you at the indoor pistol range? It's like someone dropped a 1/4 stick. |

I'm at a bench, and out of all the available and open benches someone invariably parks their butt next to me with their comped carbine, or they decide they are going to shoot a comped .308 without the suppressor that they have sitting next to them on the bench. What the effing hell? If I shoot my compensated guns, I give others some breathing room if possible. |

Quoted: I find complaints about guns being loud comical. It's a gun, they go bang. Yes they do...and there are plenty of rifle calibers that are much louder than a Miculek-compensated .223/5.56 that show up at my local range and shoot off the bench next to mine. All it takes is a pair of foam plugs under your set of muffs and even the harshest of reports can be made bearable. Off topic, but I also get a kick out of all the AR guys complaining that an eight or nine pound rifle is heavy. What a bunch of candy-asses....LOL!!! |

Lol, I just realized that in my previous post I misspelled brake every single time...must have been a little tired. Urinal effect, hahahaha. Why is that? I mean, I totally agree with you that it happens at the range (and urinals), but why? I realize that's a pretty deep question for a gun forum but why the hell do people feel compelled to sit (or stand) right next to other people??? I always give people space when available. If the range is packed, then it is what it is and people are going to have to deal with my comped AR's |
| as Knife_Sniper commented...I don't shoot at a public line too often, as I shoot primarily 3 gun... but before a big match, or when I change something I like to shoot 400m or so at the Manatee (FL) gun range which has a berm at 500m or so, and a wall at 600m or so... we throw a half box of clay birds on the 600m berm... we are now a couple of old guys with 16" rifles and 4x32 Acogs and loud muzzle brakes that have dared intrude on the bench rest guys territory.... we merely start plinking at the clay birds... in a couple of minutes, the shooters around us notice that we are actually hitting them on occasion... we soon have an audience, and questions begin |
