I just bought a Colt AR-15 A4 and am wanting to replace the grip. I removed it today and noticed a small spring in the grip that extended a little way up into the gun. I was wondering if it is necessary to get a a grip with a hole for the spring, or would it be ok to replace it without it?  Took a pic, but can't figure out how to insert..Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

It's for the selector lever isn't it? I think grips without a hole for it will be fine, if a little harder to align, maybe?

Most if all grips I have seen have the hole. The spring is in there for the safty and there is also a detent in the hole you dont want to lose. My advice is to youtube things in the future so you have a visual unless you know someone who has experience. Its all easy stuff I just dont want you to lose or install something wrong.

Do you have a grip with no hole? Maybe I am wrong and they make one.

I've never seen an AR grip made without the hole for the spring.  It's an integral part of the firearm functioning properly.

Yup, you're definately gonna need the spring and detent, and consequently, a grip with a cavity for the spring to seat into. No safety selector without it.
