I am building my first at, and looking at http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/mobile/default.aspx#P7497. What is a multi cal upper?  I am looking to use this with my spikes lower. Am I going to run into issues?

Your link doesn't take me to a product. It just leads to the main product page. Double-check It.

Any un-barreled upper can be considered "multi caliber". Have you considered going with a complete upper? The money spent on proper tooling could go towards the rifle itself. On the other hand, assembling the lower yourself only requires a couple basic tools and allows you to peice together some higher quality components with that money saved on the upper tooling.

Congrats on the build and welcome to the community.

Proper tooling?  You mean a torque wrench?

Try this one. http://www.spikestactical.com/upper-receiver-forged-m4-flat-top-multi-cal-p-123.html  I have considered complete uppers, but it's easier to sneak a couple hundred dollars past the wife over a long period of time vs $500 + all at once.

Takes more than a torque wrench to properly put together an upper...

If you don't mind the chance of some small blemishes these BCM uppers are about $40 cheaper.  I've used several on different builds and they have all been great.

ETA: The Spikes should suit your needs just fine, just giving some other options.

There is no compatibility between a Spike's "Multi-Cal" upper and any standard flat-top stripped upper receiver.
