Were these some of the clearance blem receivers? Or, were they the matched upper/lower sets that they sell? If the former, that's par for the course when buying blem parts cheap. If that latter, I'd contact Aero Precision. ETA: If the colors are quite a bit off, and you think it's possible they sent you the wrong color uppers, I'd still contact them (even if you did buy the blems). From my experience, they have good CS. |

Were these some of the clearance blem receivers? They were on sale but not marked as blems. When I called and asked about them prior to ordering they said they were on sale because they were getting rid of the colors. My biggest concern are the first couple pictures with the extra material and the color match on the upper. Now for a twist on the question, if you paid someone to do this cerakote job would you be ok with the results? |

If you clean your rifles after shooting one mag and place them back in a glass gun cabinet, you might ask to send it back. The flashing and finish dings are not "normal" but happen. I'm sure they would fix it.
If you like to shoot your rifles, put them on the ground or in a stand or whatever, the marks will just blend in with all of the other ones. |

+3 I bought a blemished upper that was perfect upon receipt. A few trips to the range and it's scratched now. Still works perfectly. Quoted:

Up to you if you want to exchange or not. Personally I wouldn't give a shit tho. +1 +2 +3 I bought a blemished upper that was perfect upon receipt. A few trips to the range and it's scratched now. Still works perfectly. +4 You're looking WAY too hard for blemishes. It's a gun, not a museum piece. Go shoot the thing and enjoy it. Don't let a few microscopic scratches bother you. Quoted:

It's odd what the consider blems. I have an Aero blem upper, and it has none of those marks, and the one Aero lower that I SBRd, I did so because it was perfect at the time. She ain't so pretty now, but I had the best intentions
None of my Cerakoted stuff has those bubbles. Just some perspective. That stuff would not bother me, knowing how they look after a few range trips, and especially after my people "handle" them, but it's your money. You should get what you want. Exchanging lowers is a long, drawn out process. If you are in a hurry to build, just put them together, you won't even notice it after a while. |

Now for a twist on the question, if you paid someone to do this cerakote job would you be ok with the results? The cerakote job looks fine. The imperfections you pictured are dings in the receiver, and or forging flash that was not removed while machining the receiver. I think all of my Lowers have similar forging flash material in the same spot, and they range from Colt, Spike's, Aero Precision, etc. Bottom line. It sounds like you are not happy with these receivers, and while many believe you are being overly concerned or picky, I think you should get on the phone with Aero Precision, or IM their rep here on ARFCOM. I'm sure they will take care of you. I have ordered several of their blem parts in the past, and on some I could not find a blemish. Others I saw small imperfections like you have pictured here. Hence the reason I asked if they were blems. Call them, and see what they say. If they replace them, awesome. If not, there's noting wrong with them. Also, after some decent use, you're going to have imperfections in the cerakote, as it does scrape off somewhat easily. It's tougher than rattle can paint, but it's still paint it's still susceptible to scratches, etc. Good luck. ETA: correction, Cerakote is a coating not a paint like I originally noted. My apologies. |

If the finish was done incorrectly, it'll probably get bad very fast. Solvents or rubbing might even take it off in many spots.
Again, if, then I'd call them on it. I don't know what the rest of you are doing with your rifles but mine don't pick up nearly any exterior wear on a 'trip to the range.' Guess I just don't operate hard enough... |
| Thanks for all the information. The small pits and stuff don't bother me, I just wanted to know if that was typical from cerakoting because I haven't seen those issues on any of my other forged receivers, even the psa blems that I have. My biggest concern was with the flashing in the first two pictures. I've never seen that before and didn't know if the issue was more than cosmetic. Since these builds are for gifts I went ahead and shot a message to Aero about the lowers in particular. |
