Would like your opinions on my first and only AR. I generally run HK style and AK variants but have always loved ARs...so I decided to build a budget AR in a caliber I have plenty of.

Yes, i started building prior to the 7n6 ban :-(

Build List

Sota Arms 5.45 barrel
Guntec USA rail
Anderson Upper
TN Arms 6-6 Nylon lower with CMMG LPK
Magpul stock/grip
Alpha shooting sports BCG

For just under $500 i'm pleased with the results.  If anyone is interested, I will post a quick range report once I get it out.

All feedback, criticism and flaming welcome...I openly admit to being an AR noob.

FYI:  I did have to take some material out of the Sota chamber...was too tight... maybe too much mag phos

I'm liking the OD / black combo.

Also, $500?

What are you including in that figure.

Just out of curiousity? What's a TN 6-6 Nylon lower?

ETA: nvmd, googled it and here's the details. I wonder how that would hold up in the event of an over pressured round?

Tennessee Arms Company is proud to offer our hybrid Nylon 6-6/Marine Grade Brass lower receiver. This stripped receiver is designed to accept any mil-spec lower parts kit. All colors are molded directly into and throughout the entire receiver so you never have to worry about wearing it off unlike a painted finish.

TAC Patent Pending design is Reinforced Nylon 6-6 with Marine Grade Brass threaded inserts molded into the buffer collar and pistol grip for strength and corrosion resistance. Our receivers are designed to accept any quality lower build kit. Using the Brass inserts into a high impact Nylon 6-6 receiver make the Tennessee Arms Receiver truly the Highest Strength/ Lightest weight Hybrid receiver (5.6oz stripped) on the market. We ARE the best Hybrid receiver on the market and always will be.

Yeah...really like it too been wanting to do this for a while.

To be fair, my overall cost was quite a bit more ie: shipping, transfer fee.

I spent some time losing auctions here and there but sticking to my lowball bids

The buis, pa micro and afg came off my 10/22...

Now that we have that out of the way:

Sota Arms 5.45 barrel : & Alpha shooting sports BCG combo: $185
Guntec USA rail: $40
Anderson Upper ( Cerro forge to be exact) : $95
TN Arms 6-6 Nylon lower: $40
CMMG LPK and buffer assembly : $80
Magpul stock/grip: $50

$490

Thought i'd write a quick range report regarding accuracy and function.

Got the gun out today and it ran very nicely.  Had trouble picking rounds up from the mags (c products defense) after about 200 rounds. Pulled the bcg lubed the hell out of it and it ran flawlessly again...she likes it wet.  Otherwise out of 350 rounds, had one stovepipe and about 5 light strikes (went off on second trigger pull) which i expected as I do not have extra power hammer springs.  I really like the cmmg trigger so didnt want to make it any heavier (it breaks @ 3.25lbs)

Threw a crappy scope i had laying around on it and got it sighted in just to see what it could do.  Off of a wooden table while kneeling, i shot some 100 yds.  This was all shot using Wolf 60 grain.  Not my best shooting, was a little excited just to get out and pull the trigger so i'd say if i get it on sandbags it may shoot better.

After getting it pretty close to zeroed i shot a couple groups:

(someone was shooting 9mm at 15 yds next to me.  They are a hell of a shot because they bounced their round off the ground and almost hit my bullseye at 100 yds and the round was stuck in there)

this was 30 rounds in less than a minute, just checking how it shoots when it gets real hot:

Golden Tiger 59 gr was dead on...shot this group with irons at 25 yds. Love this ammo but its gone for now so stacked up on the Wolf and shoot the GT occasionally as its irreplaceable currently.  Will be trying some Hornady, one of these days anyways.  Wasnt able to clean the gun til just now so didnt want to run 7n6 yet.

Definitely happy with the build as it serves its purpose, shooting a 5" steel plate at 120yds and clays at 100 when scoped.  Other fun stuff in the 25-75 yd range with the micro and buis
