So after only 600rnds my shell deflector is getting pretty beat up.  I saw this picture in another thread which appears to be velcro covering the deflector.

Anyone bother to protect the shell deflector from the mean brass exiting the rifle?

Or dont care?

Or does anyone know of any paint/film/coating DIY repair job that can make it look better?

Don't care.  Velcro or rubber grip tape will protect it if you do care.

It is designed to get hit by brass

I do the same thing to all my AR's, but these are there to protect the brass, because I reload.

If it's getting scuffed up, it's doing it's job

Velcro protects your brass too.

Consensus is :   Don't care.

Ok thank you for replies.

My safe queen will have to live with a few scratches.

If it was a Jeep, they'd be telling you " Chicks dig scars".

I use the fuzzy velcro. Works nice, softens the impact, reduces noise. All good

Meh, not needed in the least.

Just in case the enemy didn't hear the big *BOOM* that came right before the faint *tink* of the brass?  Smart thinking.

I like the brass mark.  Means the rifle is used.

Spit beer through my nose.  Thanks.

Seriously though, why are the scratches a bad thing?  Mine are all brassy, and some are missing chunks of ano and Ckote from shooting shitty steel.  Meh.

The only reason I'd care, is if it was dinging up my brass to reload. However, I don't care and resize the brass anyway.

I like a little worn look. My Glock has lost all it's black on the edges of it's slide from it's 21 years of use and holstering. LOVE it. Wear marks should be worn proud!
I can understand if it's a safe queen... but if it's a "tool" that you use, bring on the scuffs!

Indeed, would kinda like to see it and know the rough roundcount, My carbine has somewhere between 5-6000 rounds everyone of them hitting the deflector and it hasn't yet made it through the anodizing. Though to be fair I'm sure the Krylon bought me another five rounds or so.

LOL this thread sure took off

Ok anyone with cerakote'd uppers notice a difference?

My RRA forged stripped upper was like $140

The SP billet upper + cerakote I plan on buying soon for my first SBR/suppressed build will be over $400.

I own pg 2.

I reload every round that goes through my rifles.

I don't protect my shell deflector.

I have never had an issue in 10's if 1000's of rounds.

She deflector protection plan:

1) Unload rifle,
2) Place in safe place,
3) Insert tampon into you no-no place,
4) Have a good cry.

Felt pads would prob work just as well.  Cheap and self adhesive.
