Unless your gas tube in binding on your barrel nut or inside the upper on the gas key, I would say you're completely fine. Good to know. I tested the gas tube alignment by sliding the carrier without the bolt installed and the gas tube was slightly grazing the gas key, about 2 seconds with a flat head screwdriver fixed that. I have one of the newer slim rails where the barrel nut has no interaction with the gas tube. Now I just need to get to the range and see if the grimlins are gone and shoot the piss outa it. Thanks guys. |

So long it works that way you will be fine just make sure the gas tube is not dragging on the gas key or is angled into the upper as this can cause the bolt to not fully seat and lock up causing a malfunction. |

i am surprised that having such position for your gas block does not keep the gas tube from being aligned with the gas key.
you remove the carrier parts and slide the carrier in and out to make sure there is no snag? you should avoid snag as much as possible.. it can lead to wear on your gas tube, key, and have feeding issues. Quoted:

Works just fine, but some owners can stand the appearance and send it back. I can understand both sides of the coin. Shorter rail, showing the block, might drive me a little batshit if people keep noticing and asking the same dumb question

"What were the symptoms of being undergassed?
If there were no malfunctions, and you are using the direction of the brass from "the chart" to diagnose, I would say leave it alone." Bolt under-traveling. Misalignment was validated when I removed the gas block and saw the carbon shadow on the barrel where the gas block was only half way aligned "Why do you think you didn't get it aligned correctly the first time? Is it a set screw or clamp on and does the barrel have a dimple?" I aligned it at the 12 o'clock position but the gas port was drilled a little off-center by the manufacturer. It should be aligned now, with a little cant which isn't ideal, but as long as it functions this weekend when I re-test it, no big deal! I'll keep you guys posted. |

Almost all barrels have "carbon shadow" after some use with a lo pro block. If it was reliable before, just leave it alone man!

So in other words, the rifle was reliable before? Almost all barrels have "carbon shadow" after some use with a lo pro block. If it was reliable before, just leave it alone man! Quoted:
