I notice nowadays when shooting my colt 6920 since it now has so many rounds through it, it seems like all of my light loads seem to recoil and kick a little harder than when the gun was new and xm193 definatly kicks and recoils harder than when the gun was new. The gun has round 4000 rounds through it, is this a normal gas port erosion thing or what?

What buffer are you running? Carbine, H, or H2?

With 4000 rds through it you might consider a new buffer spring

Most likely this is a combination of ALL things. Your gas port has eroded some, and your action spring (buffer spring) is starting to get soft - and all the moving parts have worn together to reduce friction. A new buffer spring and/or a heavier buffer may slow things down a bit, but a new action spring should be in your near future. Does your Colt have an H2 buffer?

This it is a spring it is consumable part that needs replacement from time to time.
Compression and expansion of the spring over and over wears it out and shorten the over all spring.  Measure it against another low mileage one and you will see the difference.

replace the buffer spring.   and start doing more push-ups   to put some meat on those shoulders...

at 4000 rds i would consider it still new.

5.56 has no kick, try a AR in 308 caliber. that has kick.

after 4000 rounds though? Come on. Some people go through that much in a few months.

an AR in .308 has no kick either - all the oomph gets soaked out by the weight of the gun, the buffer and the spring.

Now...I will say I thought that my fathers 44. Mag Win 94 kicked.

It's time for a new Action Spring.

That is a lot of cycles for an Action Spring...

An AR doesn't kick.  A semi-auto .308 doesn't kick.  Now try a U.S. Model 1903 bolt action.  Nice and light weight, chambered for .30-06.  That's beginning to approach "kick".

i take it you never spent $100 on a nagant to ride the Russian Express.

Ya, 7.62x54R is pretty assertive.

As others have noted it is time to replace the action spring and you might consider a heavier buffer. You will not have much erosion at the port but all the moving surfaces of the bolt carrier group have smoothed up and reduced the amount of gas required to cycle the action.

Good on you for noticing the increase in recoil. Some guys never get to a point where they feel the buffer hitting bottom in the extension. While it is not a lot of recoil being able to detect slight changes in the cycling will only make you a better shooter.

Yes I have a Nagant and I yes I know the ar in 556 has no kick compared to other weapons but there seems to be a noticable difference in RECOIL. I replaced the buffer spring every 2000 rounds so I just did it before this shoot. I am running an H buffer but awaiting an H2. Thanks for the help.

If you want shoulder fired recoil, you need to fire the Anzio IronWorks bolt action 20mm Vulcan

I love the abuse a steel buttplate provides  It's even better with the M38 carbine.  With less weight to absorb the recoil you really notice it.
