If you switch out an AR15 style BCG for a M16 style do you need to change the buffer to an H? In a nutshell Stag Model1 swapped out the factory BCG for an Aim Surplus NiB V2. Thanks.

it depends, you want the heaviest buffer that causes you no problems according to a video posted here a few days back. Bolt should lock back after last round with all mags and feed reliably. for sure I would at least try an H buffer.

The truth about buffers and how to choose the correct one!

Most likely, no.

Most companies recommend that when you swap a BCG that you keep everything else the same. It's also a recommended that you check the headspace with a new BCG especially if you're dropping a new one on a really old barrel.

If you encounter issues with your new bcg, it's recommended then that you switch the buffer to a heavier one or put in a o-ring on the extractor.

95% of the time OP, what your doing won't cause a problem. Don't fix what isn't broke. Address the issue IF it becomes a problem and is not 100% reliable after you test fire it. I hate throwing parts at something unnecessarily when I could use the resources appropriately somewhere else...

If you don't know the answer, why are you swapping BCG's in the first place?

Im swapping it because I wanted to upgrade and have a back up. The AIM Surplus NiB is less expensive then most standard BCGs. And not knowing the answer is why I am asking the question.

You will be fine.
Head space is set with the barrel extension. You can't change it anyhow.
Only thing you can do is change bolts until you find the best fit.

So long as the parts are in spec and from a reputable manufacturer, there should be no issue.
