The only difference I see in the Oracle vs. Sportical is that the Oracle has a "Forged 7075 T6 A3 Flattop" & Sportical has an "Extruded 7029 T6 Slick sided Flattop" what's the difference & what's better? Is the hand guard on these 2 ARs free floating?

The only difference is the upper receiver itself. The Sportical has the slick side upper with no forward assist or dust cover. The Oracle has them (more commonly used upper receiver).

No, neither handguard is free floating.

The upper on the Oracle would be better, forged>extruded, 7075T6>7029T6.  For the price of either you would be much better off buying a Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport or even better, you could get a Palmetto State Armory M4 Premium complete upper for $399  and  a complete blem lower for $149.

Thanks guys I appreciate it. Is not having a free floating hand guard a real bad thing? I'm looking to set up my 1st AR & the Oracle is relatively basic, I want a scope & won't need sights so the Oracle seems to fit the budget. Have a feeling ARs are addicting & I'll be building another (or 2) in the not so distant future. Also plan on installing a new trigger, who makes the best trigger assy for these rifles?

Having no sights whats so ever on an AR is foolish in nature. If your scope breaks what next? Just having some sort of BUIS is always a good idea.

DPMS doesn't use mil spec parts. While its not a huge deal, but Ive seen many times where upgrading a DPMS oracle just didn't work

Just look on palmetto state armory's website periodically because you can pick up some wicked deals and be at the price and maybe less of any DPMS. At least its mil spec. once again not a big deal but rather have than not.

Stay away from PTAC

Neither of those DPMS rifles have free floated barrels.  Won't matter for plinking or hitting a man size target at typical engagement distances.  A fixed Front Sight Base is the best gas block you can have.  For optics 4x and higher it is not visible.  The best trigger you can get would be something from Geissele.  I wouldn't waste the money putting one on an entry level DPMS though.

Not having a free float is not a big deal ( pending intended use ) I got a coyote with mine at 325 yards, all stock with a nikon p223.   I'd go with the oracle.   As for a new trigger get a ALG ACT trigger and run JP yellow springs.

Remember these guns are very upgradable and yours will evolve over time. Don't worry about People calling it a waste on an entry level rifle. It's your gun and you can make it your way.
