| Measure your rifle halves then look at Pelican's website. They have dozens of different sizes and dimensions to custom fit the to just about anything. We use all kinds at work for different things from shipping samples to electronic equipment. They are proud of their stuff but it's first rate. I figure there has to be something that is essentially a large brief-type case that you could make work. |

Most of my stuff, 16" carbine, 5 loaded P-Mags, tools & cleaning supplies, Larue 140 w/ 1x4 scope, extra 100 rounds, all it in a Larue Covert Case. Room for more, handgun , bipod, etc.Lots of $$'s but will last a lifetime. You might check AR15.com's store. I just got mine and it's phenomenal. Absolutely love it. http://www.laruetactical.com/sites/default/files/cc_builds.jpg +1 Mine just came on Monday and it's better than I thought. Fit's the SBR's perfectly or the regular AR's broken down. I will probably get a second one of these in the future. |

That Larue case looks nice. But the one I got for my kid to use is a THUGCASE. It is a violin case with a modified interior to fit a broken down M4gery (with 16"barrel"). It is not has handy for extra stuff like that soft case BUT it does CONCEAL what is in the case to the other apartment dwellers on the way to and from the car.

How about this:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-eij_2AZ0nMc/UvbK9nBWpbI/AAAAAAAAAOU/a0DW-XZVQzE/w891-h668-no/IMG_3423.JPG with the forward handle you might have to turn it 90 degrees. Or maybe put the lower receive below. I used a stanley tool box from Home Depot and then two layers of Pelican Pluck Foam from a 1650 case. I have not done anything with the second layer yet. I'll probably just turn it into a storage area for cleaning kit, some tools (allen key, screw driver, etc), and some replacement parts for lower/upper. |

Thanks. The tool box is like $30. Is the 28" Stanley. The expensive part is the pluck foam. It can run anywhere from $80 to $120, and I used two sets. Fortunately we had some at work that we didn't need.
You could probably get by with 1 set, and then make some kind of stand to hold it up. with a 16" barrel you can't have the foam sit at the bottom since the sides taper in. You could do it diagonally maybe. The alternative would be to have a company cut out the shape you want and then layer it. But you'd have to do some 3D modeling of the parts for that. Oh, I used a dremel to start the cut for the intricate contours, then completed it with a sharp knife. Then used the sharp knife from the sides to get the depth I wanted and finally glued the cut areas on the side back together to keep the shape. |

I sure would like to find a carry case ( Preferably hard case but soft would work) that my M4 would just barely fit in separated in 2 halves. Would be really handy http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v368/NORTEXED/DSCN1778_zpsb9ca88f5.jpg I use a Bulldog discrete case I got at brownells. I like it because it looks like it might have tennis rackets or such inside. Linky |

I do like it a lot, I just happen to have a wide variety of accessories on my rifle. I bet it's perfect for an SBR. |
