for $695.  https://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=4359

Don't much care for the piston but I have wanted to try a melonite barrel and a compensator. A piston is interesting over the traditional operating system but since all mine have worked great why get a piston gun?

Anyway looks like a good setup and I have been wanting to build a 14.5 upper, try a comp., and melonite. Its about $940 if you price it seperatly and I figure if I don't like the piston I could sell it and convert to DI.

Any thoughts or experience?

Meh.  I love Rainier.

I wouldn't let Melonite fascinate me into buying a piston rifle, but that is just me.  That comp is cheap, if you want to try one, just pick one up.  My experience with that comp is that people will flog you at the range.  I gave mine away.

Again, love Rainier, and their parts. My DI Rainier is fantastic, one of my absolute favorites, but I doubt I would buy a piston because of it.

If you decide to do it, you won't regret buying from them.  As for regretting that piston purchase, I cannot say...

Everything I've got from Rainier has been great and their service is outstanding. I didn't know they were getting into pistons. I have one AA 5.45x39 piston gun and it has been abused and performed flawlessly. I've been wanting a AA 5.56 but I think I'll try Rainiers version now. I already have 24 or so DI rifles and one in the mail. Only have 3 pistons. Time for another. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm sure it's great if you're into pistons. I would just buy a Melonite treated barrel and build a DI. That's a good price though.

I did get several parts from Rainer for my upper. I would like to try a piston gun but don't care to have one over DI right now. If I could run a case of ammo through one first that would help my decision
