I was wondering if anybody has sent their psa m4a1 upper out to put the m203 cuts under the handgaurd? Or is it really necessary? Thanks.

They're only necessary if you're planning on mounting an M203.

You would think some things should go without saying.  But you did it without any sarcasm.  Why? lol

I thought it was kind of pointless. I was just wondering if anybody had done it.

Or for bubba-home-brew-gunsmith to take the dremel to his barrel and then get a barrel explosion later...

That said, no need for the cuts unless you're going to mount a 203.  While 40mm is exponentially more fun to shoot than 5.56mm, I'm not sure I'd get one for personal consumption unless someone was footing the ammo bill...

Are you talking SOCOM barrel with the flats on the barrel?

But if that were the case I would forego the SOCOM barrel profile to begin with.

As a civie even though I dont have an M203 I want my rifle to be as close as possible to my private purchase "weapon in common use at the time".
