Ok so i'm looking for my first ar looking at colt, sig, and stag but up for all suggestions. Can someone help me make my mind up. It doesn't have to be the brands I stated I'm wanting to stay around the 1,500 range, and can you explain to me why you would choose that weapon. TY confused

TY confusedWelcome to the Black Rifle Disease (BRD) club (AKA AR15.com), we're warning you that when you get your AR you will be hooked just like all of us here. First of all we would like to know what you want to do with your AR? Are there any special features that you would like to have, like free floating handguard, collapsible stock, carbine or rifle length barrel, etc? There are very many configurations that are available in the market and it would really help what are the purpose of the rifle that you want. |

Ok, so I,m wanting to maybe use it for coyote hunting, and my son can use my other rifle and other than that prob just use it for my metal targets and practice shooting should I have to use it in a real situation pray to god not but if so, I will be prepared
. I was leaning towards the colt just because price and mil spec. But wanted someone to help me with making my mind up I have made purchases before and was disappointed. |
Ya,that's what I was thinking, but didn't know for sure its not to expensive for an ar but it's still alot of money to spend and not be happy. But then again i know I'll be grinning from ear to ear. I love shooting and I love all my weapons all the way down to my 22's

Another vote for the Colt 6920. Either try Wal-Mart if they have them or go to DSG through the ads here and see if they have any on sale
Use the extra money for mags first and then decide what optics you might want later. Varmit hunting you might want a scope over a reddot Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Colt is going to be the best off the shelf option for what you want to spend, the rifle will set you back 1000.00 with the left over money you can buy plenty of mags, ammo or an optic.
The reason you're seeing Colt being recommended repeatedly is because it's proven. You'd be selling yourself short buying anything else especially with prices being what they are now. During the panic, everybody was paying a premium for a Colt, wonder why that was? Resale value is better with a colt, reliability is better with a colt and reputation is better with a Colt.. |

The only other option OP's price range I would recommend would be a BCM carbine model (I've sworn off recommending Spikes given their reps antics online). Buds guns has them iirr but the 6920 from DGS would be a better deal Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

To be honest. I think there are some better choices than colt. Daniel Defense is one that comes to mind Of course there are better choices, lots of them. But OP's barely going to get the DD, if that for $1.5k. And if OP isn't (yet) an AR aficionado, then is he really going to appreciate or want to spend more? That's why Colt is IMO his GO-TO brand. Hell, might as well save up a little more and pick up an PredatAR if that's the case...or a little more more and go for a Predat/OBR. Overkill IOW unless, as I stated, OP has a specific reason for wanting/getting a different brand. |
| Buy the colt 6920 first. After that, then get whatever floats your boat. I was in the same boat as you once, and thanks to the experts around here, I got the colt. Since then, Ive built a few. My next rifle was a DD upper on a stripped lower I built. GREAT RIFLE! You cant go wrong with either of those 2, the colt will get you in the game cheaper though. |

Or if the colt name makes you horny like some buy one of those lol You just don't get it. Quoted:it makes me horny. in terms of specs to dollars. i would recommend a 6920 to anyone new to ARs, unless they had a very specific role in mind e.g. a varmint gun. This. |

Quoted: <edit> lwrc M6-SL $1499.00 lwrc piston, no worries.. your welcome,, ![]() Uhh... If pistons are so great, why is LWRC showing a DI rifle at SHOT??? [....and there goes the thread.... Sorry, but I had to poke that hornet's nest ]To answer the OPs question(s): I would recommend, (and I think it summarizes the general consensus of this thread) Colt, Wyndham Weaponry, DPMS, RRA, Daniel Defense (DD), CMMG, Smith & Wesson M&P-15, Stag, Spikes, or Bravo Company USA (BCM) as reliable brands that should serve you well. This is by no means an exhaustive list. Some folks have reservations about DPMS and CMMG but they should be okay for your purposes. DD and BCM (and Colt) have reputations for iron clad performance and endorsements from men who use the rifles in some serious situations. You can probably find models from all of the above brands besides DD or BCM for less than $1200; DD and BCM will run ~$1300. Some Walmarts sell Colt rifles at good prices (~$980). Cabela's sells at least S&W and Wyndham rifles. There are lots of choices, but please don't but anything with a polymer lower (Bushmaster Carbon 15) or Olympic arms as these tend to be the worst performing versions of the AR-15. |
