Has anyone used one of these? I read they're rigid as far as uppers go. Any truth to that? Does a more rigid upper help with accuracy?

Thanks,
Ken

You mean their standard, flat top upper that comes on most of their rifles?  What would make it more "rigid" ?

They have thicker walls than a normal receiver and more weight even being low profile. An upper can't do a lot for accuracy, but the extra weight might lessen the recoil impulse a negligible amount.

My advice, buy it because you want a slickside upper that is thick, sturdy, and very durable. Not because it will perform any differently than a normal upper

Agree with above posters statements.  I like slick sides.  Here's one I built using a DPMS Lo-Pro upper.  Rail on the upper matches perfectly with the Midwest SS Gen 2 handguard.

my friend built a varmitter from oracle parts. It has the slick side upper. I think it looks good on a varmit/predator rifle but for a home defense/3 gun rifle its a good way to get crap in your action.

The only problem with these DPMS Lo-Pro Uppers is you cannot use them with the DPMS tactical bolt stops -- you must use a lower with a regular bolt stop.

More aluminum around bolt still wont help.
The heart and sole of the accuracy of the AR is the Barrel (and barrel extension) and bolt. all lock-up and stiffness need to be there. In all practical reality those two are the only stressed parts. Still can't use a plastic BCG but everything else on that rifle just holds parts in place so those two work right.

We have heard reports of slightly better accuracy from custom builders using the Lo-Pro receivers.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the replies, I've decided to try one. It will make a good home for the one premium barrel I own:) Now, can anyone recommend a scope mount that will allow a forward position for the scope? Also a scope rec. would be nice. Most I can spend (on the scope) is around $500, will be shooting mostly 77 and 80 gr. out to 500 yards.

Thanks again,
Ken

Used a couple for bufferless builds, more stock around the gas tube area.
