They make them in house to military specifications; the only difference between a Colt military barrel and commercial barrel is the barrel length.

They make them in house as well as sub them out to green mountain. They also make them up here in Canada in their Canadian factory. It wouldn't surprise me if they use other sub contractors also when the production requirements are numerous.
