I'm looking to pick up my first AR in the next few months, but researching has proven to be pretty overwhelming for me so I'm coming here for some opinions.
I know for sure that I'm not into building my own this round, I'd really like to get my self familiar with them before I dive into building one but I'll probably go that route the next time. I'm more interested in rifle length ARs in the 18-20" range with a budget of around 1200 after shipping and transfer fees. I've narrowed down my list to these three: Windham VEX RRA Coyote DPMS 3G1 There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information floating around on the web about these rifles, so I've come to you for help. All I know is that Windham is a new company with great history behind the people working there, RRA makes really good rifles, and DPMS doesn't have that great of a track record, but the 3G1 has features that I'm looking for. |

DPMS and RRA both make some very good rifles along with low priced models. I would have no problem purchasing from either of these manufactures. You get what you pay for, higher end more accurate rifles with higher quality components are going to cost a lot more. I purchased a Doublestar http://star15.com/DSC_DS4_MOE.html on sale for $850 during the crises and with a Jard fully adjustable trigger and hand loads went from 4" groups to sub moa. For accuracy look for a longer heavy barrel with free float handguard. Don't skimp on optics and mount. I'm not familiar with Windham. Just remember this is only the beginning of the assault on your checkbook. Here's mine, group size should shrink even more with upcoming free float handguard, then 18" heavy barrel upgrade, then.................

Hello, I have a similar budget and have been looking at rifles with about the same specs. Have you looked at the Stag Arms model 6? Might not be what you are looking for though because of the longer barrel. Thanks for the suggestion, and it looks like a great rifle plus I read great things about Stag but you're right, it's a bit too long for me. |

Thanks fellas, I'm leaning towards the RRA as well, just trying to gather as much information as I can before I throw $1000 down on a rifle. Quick question: are you going to use an optic on your rifle? If so, do NOT get a rifle with the fixed front sight asy!
Instead get an AR with a completely flat upper. This way the optic won't have the front sight asy to interfere with in its view & you can always add some flip-up front & rear sights down the road if you choose. My .o2 |
