I just got my first ar and I don't really like the a2. I was just wondering what everyone here thinks is the most EFFECTIVE flash hider. Effective at doing what? I have run the YHM Phantom which is nice for a little more aggression on the end of your barrel, the Smith VORTEX is well liked and the AAC Blackout series are touted as some of the best made (installing 1 on my next build). If you want coverage there is also the Noveske KX-3 flaming pig which pushes gas and noise forward. |
| Phantom, Vortex and AAC Blackout all work very well, with the latter two slightly better from tests I've seen but I've not noticed much difference myself. Only thing I do not like about the AAC is the alloy is extraordinarily hard to drill for permanent pin/weld job by home gunsmith. I think it's a precipitation hardened stainless whereas the others are probably from 4000 or 8000 series alloy steel. At any rate, can't go wrong with whichever your budget and personal tastes allow. |
| Side-by-side testing shows the A2 flash hider is quite effective at decreasing flash seen by the shooter, and it's inexpensive. In order to help you out, we'd kinda need to know what it is you don't like about the A2, and what you're trying to get with whatever replacement you choose, i.e. superior flash suppression, scare the poo out of people looking at the gun, etc. |
