The Rifle:
Link to specs. I built this rifle about a month ago. The only thing that has changed since then was the addition of the Geissele Super Dynamic 3-gun trigger.
Shooting: I shot the rifle, firing a 10 round group in rapid succession, off of a stack of sandbags in the front and one in the rear from the bench at 100 yards. - I checked function and zeroed with Tula 55gr steel cased/steel core .223. This is terrible for your barrel and will destroy the accuracy much faster than lead core bullets. - Everyone that I've talked to (on this board and personal friends) told me that the SD3G was not a good trigger for precision shooting due to it's lack of a tactile break. - I drank a big cup of Coca-Cola (the huge ones you get from the gas station) before firing this group. We all know caffeine makes you shaky. - Most people I talk to will say that 4x is insufficient magnification for precision shooting and that you cannot fire a group smaller than the size of the reticle (Elcan's reticle is 1.5 MOA on 4x). - The group I fired was done in well under 2 minutes (I'd like to say under 1 minute but I didn't time myself). Not allowing the barrel to cool down is awful for accuracy. - Ammo was actually decent. Trajetech ammo from CTD (bought it before they started doing their price changing BS) loaded with 77gr SMKs. - I won't get into the comments I hear about people telling me that suppressors destroy your range and accuracy on a rifle.
I normally don't fire this rifle for groups. It's usually a speed demon or something I snap at steel plates with at 200 yards and in. So far, so good! |
Pffffffft. Nobody was wrong, it's the fact that you're just a super duper great shot and can somehow make it more accurate than it really is.
You got a keeper and a great set up. The scope looks really good in black. I have to say. I like that you didn't have to have it in desert colors like everyone else. |

I just put a SD3G in one of my guns. It is "mushy" but it makes up a little by being so light. It wouldn't be my first choice for a precision gun but it could work in a pinch. Nice shooting. I've got a couple SSAs installed, but in terms of "the rules" of accuracy, I've never had trouble using the standard trigger assembly, it requires a little bit more effort, especially annoying if you're using the "fun, fun, surprise" three-pull burst cam trigger, I suppose, but as always, it's "the nut behind the trigger," not the trigger that does the job. ~Augee |

Not just a great trigger -- a great trigger pull. Having said that, seriously, installing a Geiselle SSA-E dropped my slow fire groups in half. Good triggers not only perform better. They let you perform better.
I now have a true MOA gun, frequently close to 1/2 MOA and the only change was the trigger. My S&W M&P 15 lower had a really heavy and "gritty" trigger. Not technically "bad" for a mil-spec trigger, but just not smooth, too heavy, and never quite certain as to when it would break. |

I can understand the trigger-puller being the main cause of /or lack there-of, of accuracy.. but I know that once I installed an SSA-E , an SLR adjustable gasblock and a Vltor A-5 system, my rate of fire increased and it took alot less "pull" concentration to maintain sub-moa groups on a P.S.A CHF barreled upper I put together. The trigger was the biggest difference but i like to think fine tuning the gas system and buffer to the least amount of recoil also helped.
Thats a great looking rifle A.Znoob , leaving the weapon basic black was a great decision. |

So you took a gun that shoots 1/4 MOA and did everything wrong and made it shoot 1 MOA ? Haha maybe I'll try it again next week with higher magnification and try to do everything right and see what happens. I have a feeling my group size will remain the same though. |
