I'd say keep the Daniel Defense. Ar-10s are more of a novelty firearm than an actual "Shooter" to me, well until they fix all the kinks out of them..... Kinks? what kind? That looks like an Oracle. I have one. But I modified it highly. Kept the bolt and barrel. Added an adjustable gas block JP low mass carrier. Slashes heavy buffer and spring., and a Apex FF hand guard. It purrs like a kitten. Just use P mags. I'd grab that before a ANY ar15 I own, and I own some very good ones. If I had to grab something and head out the door. It shot fine when bone stock. I just always play with things. It has a Giessele SD3G trigger, and a TA11 on it. If I can see you, bet I can hit you. It also won't be with.a little 63gr pill either. I like mine. I also own 2 MEGA10's. If I could only own 1 AR. It would be a .308 |
I retract my previous statement. History used to be that LR-308s were problem children.
Anyways, some Ar-10 platforms are great machines, others are just problematic. If you have the money to dump into fixing those problems, if there are any, then go ahead.... |

DPMS/Bushmaster turns out some decent guns, and they are fairly consistent. I have 2 that I run in 3 gun and haven't had any problems [but I have only run pmags, the factory mags have never been inserted].
That said, that sounds more like a +$600 deal to me than a +$400. DPMS 308's are not uncommon, and do not command a premium. When you factor the increased ammo costs, I would want more $$ up front... |

the dpms rifle you posted a pic of is a 900 dollar gun new at walmart... same exact config minus the optic, grip and forward grip. i personally dont like magpul forward grips, so i wouldn't count that as any extra... the optic either.
a daniel defense rifle can be had right now(if you know where to get one) for 1250 bucks. i would say that if you REALLY wanted that dpms bad, its a moderate trade at best. that being said, i have had one of those dpms rifles you pictured, and it was freaking excellent. i put an adjustable gas block on it and free float rail. super accurate for a 16" rifle. i loved it. i bought mine in full panic though and dumped it because i paid too much for it. i would buy another one again though without a question. would i trade a DD rifle for it? eh, id like to get some more cash out of the deal. |

Almost identical experience with an AP4 LR.308 .. damn things are tack drivers and solidly built. With $400 on top of the DD .223 .. it is an even trade. |

Built my "target" .308 on a DPMS, only thing I've had to replace was an extractor after a few thousand rounds. It'll ring 6" plates at 500yd 8/10 times consistently, but that's with me on it...
Depending on furniture and optics on your DD, if I had other AR's and wanted a .308, I'd probably make that trade with the $400 extra thrown in. http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/devtucker/308/DSCN0600.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/devtucker/308/DSCN0615.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/devtucker/308/0822091559-1.jpg Nice set-up. Beautiful place to shoot. I don't know why DPMS cant build their .223's like their .308's |

All the guys talking crap about the DPMS LR-308 series have obviously never had any range time with one.
The LR-308 Oracle is about $900+ if you can find one in stock without being gouged and is a very nice rifle for the money. 308's are not flooding the market the way the .223/5.56 stuff is now after the panic. If anyone wants to spend 2 times as much for something that shoots the same size groups but has a different logo on the side, feel free to do so. FYI, you'll want to replace the trigger with something good and put some quality glass on there! It is a long range shooter if you want it to be. 168 Grain Federal Gold Medal Match is universally accurate in all the LR-308's I have tried. The DD is a fine rifle, but if you want a long range system, this is a great way to get into one and have a few bucks for ammo and upgrades like a new trigger. |
