I finally found the budget AR for the deal I liked. I didn't want to break the bank on my first black gun, but wanted something decent. After much research and searching I picked up a used S&W MP Sport with 2 mags and a soft case for $575 that is in like new condition with no visible wear.. It is the model with the 1/8 melonite barrel. It is bone stock at the moment, but I have a rubber grip and scope mounts coming. I already had a 1x4 Bushnell in the safe, so it is going on for the meantime. I would like to pick up a magpul mbus rear also in the near future to be able to keep irons on as well.http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb68/crow0032/Image_zps66f078d0.jpg

Nice rifle but I would move that sight as far back as possible gives you the longest sight radius.

Edit lol your sight is backwards.

LOL! That is the pic the guy posted for the sale. The site is off the gun now. I will be checking the EE frequently for a flip up magpul rear.

Congratulations, man.  I'll bet you're going to have a ton of fun, learn a lot, make a few mistakes buying crap gear to put on your rifle (I did!), and in a few months you'll be all salty, speaking a new language that outsiders don't understand.

nice rifle, my mp sport has been nothing but a reliable, accurate rifle. i actually just got my mp15T today aswell, the reliability of the sport was a big reason i stuck with SW.

the price you paid is great, i paid around 1k for my sport when i got it with only 1 mag and without a case.

not a big fan of the color but to each their own, enjoy the rifle man, it will any even eat up the cheap russian shit and still be pretty accurate at 100 yards.

Congrats! Nice buy! The Sport is highly rated and generally gets great reviews. I'd say that's an excellent choice! Welcome aboard!

Congrats!

I almost picked me up the same carbine as yours last March when my local gun shop was wiped out clean of all AR except for one M&P Sport and an expensive Noveske with long FF rails.

After I passed by the carbine display on the wall, looked at some very few mags on the other side of the store, when I came back to the carbine a young lady already bought it and they were putting it in the box.

Enjoy it.

I think the Sport is THE best AR for < $800.  Good purchase.

nice rifle.  You are putting a good optic on it and changing out the pistol grip.  That puts you in a good place.  Now promise yourself you will not buy anything else for it until you have put 1000 rounds through it.  (more mags would be Ok)

That is my plan, although I am looking for a flip up rear site to put on it also, then I will just keep shooting it. I'd like to keep it fairly clean and just add the things I prefer for comfort and necessary function, not a big fan of all the stuff attached all over a rifle that is never really needed.

I would keep the sight you have rather than get the flip up.

I don't mind the sight I have now, but would like to keep irons on while the scope is mounted without adding a riser. I will know more next week when my scope mount arrives.
