Hey everyone,
I'm starting to do a couple of builds and I have a few questions. I asked the other day about magazines and I got a lot of good feedback so I thought I would ask about Uppers and BCG. I sold my last rifle and got out of the AR-15 game for a while and now I want back in. I'm still on a budget just like last time. My last rifle I had a total of $550.00 in it. I used a Black Thorn kit (I know hate me now) and got lucky with the parts used and the builder. The rifle was very good and it really made me an even bigger fan of the rifle on many levels. So my questions are - Who makes a great upper at an affordable price? I would be looking at just the upper without the BCG or a complete upper. Can you tell me some good vendors and links to them with good prices? How are ICE Arms BCGs? How is DSA Arms uppers and BCGs? How are the AIMs M16 BCG? I see two listed one is $99.99 and one is $109.99 but have no clue in who makes them. Okay now after those questions I'm going to move on to asking about two companies that I have heard a lot about on youtube and one of the companies I remember from years ago when I was starting to build an AR. Tell me about Spikes? This is a newer company to me I'm sure they were around back eight years ago when I started but I would like to know how their stuff is. The one company that I do remember is Stag and I have always thought they did a great looking AR. How is their stuff as of late? I have found Stag and Spikes M4 style complete uppers for $489-$520 and I consider that to be really great price and if you know of other sources for these uppers with a better price please let me know. Also if you know of other great uppers at great prices please let me know. My goal price is to stay in is 600-650 for a complete rifle. I know it is a tight window but I think it can be done. I did buy some Palmetto State Armory lowers with trigger group and Magpul MOE grip and got a really good deal on them. Now with all of that said tell me whats out there and what I need to be looking for. I really want to build a nice quality rifle and keep is simple. Thanks everyone for the help and info. |

It's been about 2 years since I've even looked at any uppers besides BCM. But last time I was in the market Spike's uppers were getting top reviews. They are out of stock at most of the shops I buy from but there are quite a few on gunbroker. Yeah the one place only has Spikes I stock right now. I will see I my next parts buy will be a couple of uppers. It might be end of the month or middle of next. Thanks everyone keep the info coming. |

Palmetto has nice looking uppers as well. I've purchased RRA from PK firearms, I believe. I have seen the entire kit minus lower receiver from Palmetto for 499 and it's quality stuff. PK Firearms is a place I remember and I remember talking either to the owner or someone who works there. They are a member here. I need to give them a look and see what they have in stock. Yeah everything I have read about Palmetto State has been nothing but good. I went with the their lower receiver and LPK with MagPul grip the only thing missing is a stock and at the price they were selling for $109.99 I can now add the stock I really want and like and not be in the higher range of a full lower. I will keep watching Palmetto State website and see what sales are going on and see if I can't pick up an upper. I think the $499.99 one is out of stock as of right now but I'm sure they will have some coming back in and some good deals going again. I need to take a look at Model 1 sales again.
